How Cute!

The title is the last thing I want to say about a speaker but I was expecting something a little bigger (that's what she said) out of a 3" mid. This is more like 2". Hardly bigger than my Scan Tweeters.

Nonetheless, I will keep an open mind and will give them a try when I finally get some good weather to install again. Hopefully in a couple of weeks when attacking my amps/dsp mount and moving to dual subs.

Creating an enclosure for them is going to be difficult. I spent some time at Lowes today looking at PVC but I don't think my original idea of PVC tubing plastic welded to a mounting plate will work. There would be too much stress when hitting bumps in the truck. I'll have to look for a lighter material.....to be continued.

This effort better be worth it! I absolutely love my current setup but many people swear by 3-way so I feel I have to try it. I guess worse case is I just go back to my current setup. ;) or have to buy another mid because there has to be something better than "cute" right? LOL

I give them two cute thumbs up, lol!

Edit: Btw, encase you don't love them, I'll have some L3v2s available pretty soon. And I owe you one... ;)

Is that the Dayton rs75? I believe someone is playing with those in a Ram right now on DIYMA.

Thanks David, very nice of you. Fingers crossed.

Etroze, yes they are the Daytons. Cardsin installed them with printed enclosures. I figured I would give them a try, can't beat the price.

Yes I really liked those printed enclousres bad a**. I just have my hybrid l3v2 mounted open up in the dash. Would like to develop somthing similar to enclose them. I finally got all my components installed but haven't even began tuning yet. Hopefully will have some time to tinker next week during vacation

What do those run? They look very well made.

Wow! I actually did something audio related today. LOL The weather is finally above freezing!

I swapped my single Fox Enclosure for the dual MTX Enclosure I picked up a while back. I mounted the old sub and the new sub into the MTX Enclosure but am currently only powering one. I have to say that I like the sound of it. I've always liked a sealed enclosure over ported, just a personal preference so I achieved my goal. I didn't take any measurements yet but my ears are happy.

No pics yet, there is work to be done on that enclosure after I get both subs powered and amps mounted. The MTX box is meant to have subs ran mono, since I will be powering each sub independently, it will require some modifications to the enclosure as I need to add an additional terminal. I didn't want to make any modifications to the enclosure before I knew it would fit my needs. If it did not, I could easily re-sell it as it is still stock. For now, my wiring is a little high-schoolish. ;) I may give it a paint job as well, something similar to the Fox Box finish.

This did however help me figure out that I do have room to leave my DSP floor mounted behind the enclosure, centered under the rear seat for easy access. This was a concern for me because if I had to include the DSP onto the amp rack behind the seats, the rack would have needed to be very creative due to space constraints. With just the amps and distributions blocks on the rack it is easy peasy so I already started attacking that. It's a pretty simple setup so I might even be able to install it tomorrow and get that other sub powered.

Nice, I was wondering how the MTX enclosure sounded. Now do you have polyfill in there as well? Check out partsexpress.com for terminal cups, I've used some from there and they did the trick well.

Yes on the polyfill and PE. They've become my favorite audio store. Awesome prices and with the lowest price shipping method I receive my orders in 2-3 days since they are in Ohio.

I just wish I could find a dual round terminal cup. It would be nice and clean to just drop right into the existing hole but why make things easy right? ;) Most likely will have to buy a 4 hole binding plate and posts.

Good call or just find binding posts you like and make a hole for them lol.

I missed this update... Good to hear you had weather that allowed some work and congrats on your new box. :naughty:
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts going from single to dual! :Rock on:

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts going from single to dual

This time of year is usually light on work for me. That always works out perfect as it is also the time of year to start fishing! While Pa has no official closed season for Trout on non-stocked waters, stocked waters do not open til this Saturday so rather than driving a distance to non-stocked waters today, I decided to install my second amp.

My "plan" for installation went perfect! I won't tune until I install my mids (hopefully tomorrow) so I am not recognizing any big change and that is as expected. When dividing an input signal for bridging purposes, you divide your power. It does however sound a little louder and cleaner, as expected.

As for the dual subs, oh yeah, this is where it's at! I know sub frequencies are not directional but now that two subs are in there, the sound is more full and really completes the overall sound in the cabin. Any future install I ever do, 2 subs will be a requirement....pending room allows.

No pics again :(. Until I get those mids in and can include those wires in the chases there was no reason to get real neat yet but they will come. I can't customize like Brad and other guys here but I can wire nicely for a professional install.

Awesome! +1 on dual subs! Now that I have tasted two, I don't think I could settle for one in any application (except maybe a Mini of a Smart).

Hey, and wiring nicely is an art in itself... I love seeing the pics where all the cables are neat and tidy.

I am guessing you work in the fishing business, or you really love trout?! ;)

Awesome!!! I said the same thing about 3 subs..... Where does it end?

And I think even without any tuning, you will say the same thing about a 3 way front stage

Just really love trout fishing. A friend of mine and I are pretty extreme and chase wild trout all over the state. It allows us to see some very rare sites and catch fish not many would believe live in Pa waters. We have a blog site if you are interested, Century Mark Outdoors.

We do both aspire to create a TV show one day so yes, that would be one heck of a job. We've already been in contact with a couple of outdoor channels about a program based on how we do it and they did express interest but for now we are just collecting footage to hopefully one day soon to present a demo.

You my friend are correct!

I gave myself the kiss of death earlier mentioning that I was in a slow period. I could swear that my customers have my house bugged as ANY time I say or write that I am slow the phone rings and the email flows. No sooner did I write that post and a couple of new jobs came in, both "rush" as usual. I guess I shouldn't complain though, it is money!

Because of this I decided to throw the mids in this afternoon while I had a chance. Once finished I connected my laptop to the DSP and turned the channels on, did some crude crossover and time alignment and said damn! this is what I've been missing!

My only experience with speakers in the dash were tweeters and they were harsh bouncing off of the windshield. Because of this I had my concerns placing mids there but I was pleasantly surprised, nothing harsh, just bliss! Those Dayton's are no joke, they sound great and are definitely a bang for the buck.

I can't wait to give it a proper tune. My mid-bass in the doors and my subs clearly cannot keep up to the mids and tweets as currently set but that is why I doubled the wattage to both the doors and subs so I will get to bump them way up when I tune.
