Anyone else have this issue? My 2017 Big Horn box appears to be approximately 1/2" off center towards the paggenger side. Never noticed it until tonight filling up with gas.
The camera is tight to the box in the same spot on each side. It I compare the top joints with how they align with the rear window joints it is evident. Didn't get photos of those areas.d15572b5658fc01086318f70ae06333b.jpge0fa84452a29bb2fbb64343a4a1e52c8.jpg

Mine is off too... The fix is to move the CAB not the bed.

Good video on YouTube about how to do it, or make the dealer fix it for you.

I was never able to find exact specs as to where it should be located front to back (I.e. space between cab and bed wall) but side to side is easy to measure to the frame

My 2016 was terrible. Worst than yours. Mine was flush on one side ha ha ha ha. My 2017 is pretty good. Seems to be common.....

Hi 17crewram,

Sorry to hear about your concerns with your vehicle! If you decide to visit a certified dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed. Just send us a PM with your VIN and let me know.

FYI - I stumbled on a document for "2009 to present" (I think the doc was from 2011) RAM 1500s that contains a bunch of the body gap specifications.

The spec for cab to bed alignment at the outer edge is 35mm +/- 4mm, parallel within 3mm.

Cab is "overflush" at that same point by 6mm +/- 4mm, parallel within 3mm.

In the center of the bed to cab the spec is 32.5mm +/- 3mm, parallel within 3mm.

I have no desire to adjust the cab. Guess I may live with it. Only bugs me when I look on the mirrors. :-/

Mine is also off center, flush on one side only. It bugs the crap out of me but I’ve learned to live with.

Its actually not that hard to do...there is a good how-to on YouTube about it.

Basically just loosen the 6 or 8 mounting bolts and use something as a spreader (video uses a small bottle jack with pieces of wood between it and the frame and rocker panel) to go between the frame and the rocker panel of the body. The jack is easy if you have one that fits....then just crank on the jack and it will move the cab. I was almost wondering if just closing the door a few times would get the cab to shift once the bolts are loose.

Now, front-to-back adjustment might be harder, but I havent verified if mine is off that way.

Mine's way off too. Dealer body shop couldn't straighten it as the holes are in the wrong spot and there wasn't enough play to align it. Seems like a really common problem with alignment on the jig at the factory. My 2017 limited is off a good 1/2" on cab gap and close to the same left to right. My neighbors 2017 sport is also crooked as well as my sisters 2017 sport, but not as bad as mine. I walked around a couple dealers and a lot of the rams were out of alignment. Seemed like the higher the trim level the worse they were. Longhorns and limited were the worst. Also most of the rams with the chrome window trim were quite a ways out because the holes for the screw that holds them are in the wrong place. I ovaled out the holes in mine to get them close enough that I didn't notice it as much. All the crooked ones I saw with window stickers were Warren builds so hopefully when they upgrade the plant for what I figure will be the new HD trucks they'll sort those problems out. Felt like mine was built on bring your 40oz to work day with all the bad panel and trim alignment.

Ive read there is a LOT of play in the CAB mounting holes but very little to none in the BED mounting holes.

Which is why dealers should move the CAB and not attempt to move (or elongate the mounting holes) of the BED.

Mine is out about 1/2" side to side, not sure about front to back yet. I havent tried moving it myself but it sounds like there is plenty of room for making it better (if not perfect). The guy on YouTube had his truck within 1/8" of perfect, as measured from rocker panel to frame. I posted the factory expected specs earlier in this thread and will be going off of those if possible (there was no spec I could find for body to frame, only cab to bed)

I guess that’s why my ST express package is bone straight and my SLT was 2” off centre lol. I’m surprised the ones on the limited or longhorns aren’t mounted with the bed in front and the cab in the back

This is downright pathetic something as simple as this couldn’t be aligned. Isn’t this done by robots? Surely mounting the cab and the box is not manually done nowadays !

Mine also appears to be welded too tight on the bottom front edge on the box so if you can get the upper lined up the bottom will still be out. I may try to get the cab adjusted so the right cab to box seal isn't so tight and maintain the gap on the drivers side so I don't have the problem with the seal wearing the cab. Dealer took pictures and submitted them to chrysler, but they said it was "within factory spec" so I'm on my own. May get a different dealer body shop to take measurements and try the warranty claim again. Last set of pics didn't have the measurements so maybe I'll have more luck with them.

That stinks! I didnt think about the whole bed being built incorrectly. I suppose thats possible, but might not be plant dependent, depending where they make the actual body parts.

I feel like the gap between cab and bed is too BIG on mine, but I cant be sure yet. I dont trust any dealer to do the right thing and line it up correctly, Ill just end up doing it myself when the weather gets better.

The factory specs are listed earlier....it does show things for parallel which is usually 3mm, so if the bottom is more than 3mm closer or further than the top, its NOT within their own factory spec. And seeing as how you wouldnt really be able to eyeball 3mm, my guess is you are out of factory spec.

It'll be a while before I have time to address and try to deal with it again, but the cab gap is 12-13 mm different between the sides. Not sure how to measure the left to right exactly, but it's pretty easy to spot that it's off. If your factory spec numbers are accurate it should be a warranty repair. I may have to live with the misaligned box weld because I wouldn't want to mess with the galvanized metal and make it more rust prone, but at least if it was closer it wouldn't be as noticable. Not like I look at both sides at the same time.

I've not noticed that the distance between the cab and box is too big or too small. I did notice that the vertical seal between bed/cab does not contact the bed. Is it supposed to?

Thats a good question and Im not sure. Havent been able to get a ruler out and check my cab to bed distance, but the vertical seals on mine are basically 1/8" away from the cab.

If they are there to keep stuff out of the gap, I assume they should somewhat touch the cab.

If they are just there to absorb impact if the bed shifts, then they probably dont need to be in constant contact.
