Hoping for some help, I just had the truck in 4 low and went to shift back into 2wd, and at first it said it went into 2 wheel. Then when I started moving it was evident it was still in 4 low. So again I tried going back into 2 wheel, and when I did that it said it went into 2 wheel but now my transmission wont engage. I go to reverse or drive and the indicator says its going into those gears but you can feel it didnt engage and the truck will just rev as if it were in neutral, wont move at all. If I try shifting back into 4 wheel it still wont move so now it is stuck and I'm stranded, also when I shift into park the instrument cluster says "going to fast to shift to park" and the keys will not come out of the ignition or move past acc. Can anyone help with whats going on here?

I would try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and try again

Makes me glad I have the manual shift transfer case

Thanks for the help, I guess I got lucky and went back out there and went through all the motions, for the 5th time I put it back in 4 low and this time it lurched forward...put it back in 2 wheel and all was back to normal. I was considering trying to disconnect the battery but with the key stuck in the acc position I wasn't really comfortable doing that.

I hate electronics LOL!

Yeah after this I can see why, I have a classic car that is extremely basic and I really enjoy having the balance by having them both but what happened today was pretty disappointing.

Next Time try floating the transmission to neutral when shifting to 4low- I would suggest going 2H- to 4h to 4low. And so fourth when disengaging, prolly doesn’t help anything it’s just a practice I personally have always done, also when it is electronic over a physical shifter, always give the electronics a couple extra seconds to do their job.

Very nice, I've got a 66 Lesabre here.

The funny thing is I actually did go into 4 high first, and I do wait til the lights are solid before giving it any gas...I was wondering if maybe it has anything to do with the fact that today was the first time I've ever used 4 low in it. I use 4 high occasionally during the winter when I need it, but have never needed 4 low til today. Truck has 43k on it, I bought it with 20k from Maryland so it could be the first time it was ever shifted into 4 low.

It's a good practice to run it in all the gears once in a while

I'm not an expert on the newer ram tech, but it sounds like the park/neutral safety interlock is preventing the trans from shifting into gear. Try starting the vehicle in park and giving it a few seconds, then apply the brake for a couple seconds before shifting. Shot in the dark.

If all else fails as mentioned earlier, disconnect the battery for a while to try and reset....
