If this happened to me one time, I would not be driving that truck until the dealer assured me that it was thoroughly tested, and would not happen again. If it happened to me twice, I'd have the dealer buy it back and get another truck. You could be at a stoplight with a family crossing in front of you and it suddenly accelerates? No effing way!

I could see a slight possibility of foot on brake and loose floor mat absent-mindedly being pushed forward with the left foot, but not likely in my opinion. My Ram mats have hooks through holes in the mats to prevent them from pushing forward. If not that, I'm not going to drive it while they're trying to chase electronic gremlins, and keep risking lives testing it.

This happened to my wife today in our 2025 Ram 1500 with the Hurricane engine. Sadly, it caused an accident but no injuries. Like OP, my wife was sitting at a red light behind two other cars when the truck surged forward, plowing over the car in front of her. Witnesses agree she was stopped in traffic when the truck launched forward.

Interesting enough, not 20 minutes before this, she was in a parking lot and noticed a mandatory update flashed on the display panel stating the vehicle needed to update or it would be disabled. She pushed the OK for update and went inside the store. When she came back out, the truck would not start for 10 minutes. When it finally started, she drove it down the road, stopped in traffic at a red light and the truck took off. It happened fast but not so fast that she wasn't able to put both feet on the brake trying to crush it down. Nothing. Police didn't write her a ticket because they thought it was suspect as well, but she is still listed as at fault in the collision.

Edit: We have molded in floor mats. That was definitely NOT the issue here.

Sorry to hear of your grief. That's such a huge PITA for all involved. It's great that there weren't any injuries.

Did you have it towed or floated to your dealer for a complete assessment?

It was towed by a local towing company to an auto repair service in our town. I let them know what happened and asked them not to drive it. Once it is repaired, I will have it towed to the dealer I bought it from for a full analysis. Hopefully, the vehicle data recorder will be able to tell us what happened.

You may want to see if you can get an independent service that can download the data recorder, preferably under proper scrutiny so evidence is properly preserved, BEFORE anyone fixes anything. I would not trust a Stelantis dealer to do that or to tell me truthfully if the vehicle was at fault, as that has huge implications for them. If you don't know where to source that service, start with you insurance company, they too have an interest in preserving action against Stellantis..

This is very good advice and I will follow through with that first thing tomorrow.

Would it show acceleration? I mean if it did would it be able to separate out if it was driver induced ?

Just going to be the "devil's advocate" for a moment here ........ Has anyone ever performed a convertor stall test or a WOT brake stand? Did the vehicle move or stay stationary?

Yes, I have same feelings. AFAIK the brakes are typically able to overcome WOT. I would try a WOT brake stand test on my truck, but I don't want to break anything.

@Intrepid Corsair - please keep us informed. Thanks, and good luck.................

RAM should jump on this hard. We bought a new 86 Audi 5000 just as 60 Minutes did their hatchet job on Audi sudden acceleration in the same period. It was a complete farce - 101 hp couldn’t even begin to overpower German 4-wheel disc brakes. I know I brake-torqued it to satisfy my own concerns. Yet it still just about destroyed Audi in the U.S. for many years. But 420 HP and 475 ft lbs torque with the low first gear and converter torque multiplication in modern transmissions is another matter. I believe I would be contacting NHTS too.

I think if you are trying to do this intentionally you probably have your foot hard on the brake. I'd wager a guess that most people sitting at a stop light have the brake pressed just enough to keep it from moving, which the engine could easily overcome at instant full throttle.

Whatever it shows, better to have a complete, unedited, un-erased version of the information. It should show brake force and throttle at minimum. It should also be able to show throttle position. That, along with this thread of others having the exact same issues and Stellantis saying nothing, is a very good start of a defence for the driver and a case for damages.
