So a common problem with engine code P0016 is that the VVT solenoid losing some screens to it (new design on part) and it can no longer regulate the oil pressure in the cams correctly. I had the P0016 code and replaced a faulty cam sensor which seemed to fix the problem for a very short while, then It came back and truck would go into limp mode when check engine light would come on. And after some more research and youtube videos things started to point to the Solenoid. I decided to tackle the VVT solenoid to resolve the P0016 code and limp mode. So I purchased a replacement Dorman brand solenoid and completed the job only to now have a P0014 code. I think the limp mode is no longer a problem. This was disheartening that it didn't fully resolve the problem, but I can find very little information regarding this code and what the problem could be. Oil is always 5w20 and was recently changed. I could try another oil change but I have my doubts it would help. Something else is going on and I don't have much hair left. So my question is...These solenoid screens "disappear" from the solenoid, Where do they go? Could they get lodged in an oil passage and prevent the proper flow of oil? Or could they flow to the cam and get lodged and prevent the full adjustment of the cam? I'm not really sure which oil passages flow which direction so I'm not sure this is even possible?
