Wash your Ram or let alone for a few days

I hate mud. If I really get into it, I at least try to get the undercarriage clean. The mud I get into usually has some fine gravel. That stuff will got stuck everywhere and create all sorts of squeaks and issues.

I hear ya’ I don’t go mudding any more but sometimes when I go off roading to camp, fish and hunt, mud is on the trail and the inevitable happens.

Sheet metal and other materials are much better than they used to be but, my brother owned a service station with a car washed attached and washed his 83 F150 daily. It rusted in less than a year. General diagnosis was that it never had a chance to thoroughly dry out. It was constantly wet in the crevasses from the daily washings.

Again, materials are much better today than in 83 so take his experience for what it’s worth. I’m very picky about the cleanliness of my truck but hold off at lease two weeks between washings unless I’ve been on salted or chemically treated roads.

Im a once a week washer during the warmer months of the year. Winter time, once every 2-3 weeks if I haven't driven on any brime treated roads.

My truck gets its once per year wash in the spring. That's it. I dont do any off roading with it, but the rain seems to do a pretty good job every so often.

This truck has seen 5 nasty Canadian winters, and gets a Krown treatment every year.

I don't drive off road, ever. Occ on a gravel road. Living in SE Texas, it gets rinsed by heaven pretty regularly. We're planning on moving to far NE Texas on a dirt road, so my schedule might change.

Well the point of this thread was not to see how frequently ram owners wash their trucks on a normal basis but if it gets washed right after off roading or not.

It's not that I don't want to wash my truck, I just gave up on it......
I used to spend half a Sunday cleaning my diesel. Monday morning, I drive up to a jobsite that's 1 mile down a dirt road that is sprinkled for dust control.
Then, it rains almost every afternoon and the road is even more muddy.
One day, my trucks will a bath.........one day........


Actually, the diesel gets a wash today because we pick up the new Power Wagon this afternoon.
My wife has declared the diesel a disaster area and has demanded that she will give it a thorough bath before it becomes her truck.
She works on that same dirt road.......we'll see how long that truck stays clean when she's driving it!

11 owners are probably like me and get a new truck every 1-2 years. Question to those of you in this category: Do you use synthetic oil or save the money because you know you won’t keep the vehicle long enough to get your moneys worth?? I struggle with this question every oil change.

Not a Power Wagin but I'm probably one of the few that isn't afraid to get his Rebel dirty, use it as intended from Ram! Muddy picture is on Nov 28 and clean picture is on Dec 3rd. Took 3 high pressure rinses and a handwash to get it decent again. Dirt was still coming out from the bumpers and stuff. Also, rinsing the underside was not fun lol never been and never will go through an autowash. I usually hand wash it every week.

I have a 2008 2500 4WD six speed Dodge bought new in 2008. I only washed it when it was dirty and it was used as a work truck. I paid attention to it in winter as to frequent underbody washes when I drove on salted roads. It has no rust anywhere except at the fender wells which has been caused by an access point pinch joint I look on as a defect. It is due for repair in 2020 to fix the fender well problem with new metal and blockage of the pinch joint defect. I have a few dings but still do frequent underwashes in winter to thoroughly remove sand and salt on the undercarriage area. I will also be having it undercoated by a friend who runs an auto body repair business to preclude frame rust specifically as I intend to have this truck another ten years. I spare no expense on the mechanical care.

I used to live near a Colo. mtn. named Grand Mesa. I think this is great but I would worry about the mud in there year round. I laugh because I touched up my '96 Ram 1500 4X4 peeling paint with an $8 can of white Rustoleum and a small brush. Put'er on nice and thick. I don't do this to my '67 Hemi Conv or my '74 Duster. I told a lad with a new white Ram what I did and he just had a fit !! I loved it.

Nice color choice. I will share a few clean pictures today and a few pictures of it trashed after my hunting trip this weekend.

When I was driving a '67 Imperial, Crown coup, white, there was some rust on rear quarter panels, did not have time to fix it , so I put on a layer of 4 in masking tape, hit it with white paint ,sold it in 2012 and the tape and paint was still good, 20yrs, never did restore it, the one in my sig is a 67 new Yorker, I bought abought '70 son restored that, grandson has it now Duster and other neat stuff is gone, Damn, sell the good stuff and cheap the cheap stuff.

Just rinse mine off the same day with the hose but no soap. I just want to get the big chunks of Alabama red clay off. It gets washed with soap every month or so.

I try to wash it instantaneously after it gets dirty, or dusty.... or just damp...

Unless you are passing the vehicle on to someone you know personally, I would just put the regular ol stuff in it....

Poll so far for the 3 days is 59% of Ram owners wash their trucks very soon after they have been playing off-road with it.

That is a pretty good % if clean trucks out there representing Ram community.

For me, it’s not as much the bragging mud as the laziness factor on my end. Being in SoCal...you’ll have a lower chance of getting mugged if you have a dirty truck vs a sparkly one. The thugs will think you do real work, don’t give a crap and will be too hard to conquer.
I still wash it about once a season...our water is really hard so water spots were an issue until I made this little dual filter car wash kit out of an old cabinet frame and training wheels with quick disconnect hose ends. The first filter is an 10Micron & the second is a cartridge with replaceable De-Ion resin. The resin isn’t cheap & only lasts about 4 washes so I do my wife’s nice car first, then my Ram. I take my wife’s to a handwash place about 4 times to 1 time that I wash them.... my Ram is a truck that doesn’t need to stay pretty.
