I will be replacing my water pump soon as it is leaking around it is light but I want to replace it either way. I would like tips on how to do the replacement as well as where do I buy the water pump from. I will be replacing the thermostat too along with the new coolant. It is my first time so any advice would be helpful. Thank you!

Buy a good replacement, like OEM or Mopar. I wouldn't do anything with the T-stat unless you need to. OEM stuff is the best. Aftermarket products aren't what they used to be. Check your hoses, esp the lower hose. If it looks old or cracked, feels flacid (or even if it seems 'ok') replace it with a Gates/Goodyear, etc. just for reliability. Although I have some vehicles older than that and the hoses are still going fine. Might be a good time to exchange the coolant too if you haven't recently.

Buy a maintenance manual if you're new at this. Chilton or Haynes are the ones I am familiar with. Unless your serpentine belt is brand new, buy a new one since you'll have it off anyway and keep the old one as a spare if it is in good shape. Make sure you know what antifreeze your truck requires and/or has, OAT or HOAT. And don't mix them.

Ditto on both radiator hoses. If they are as old as the truck, replace them. There might be a spring inside the lower hose you may have to reuse.

Waiting for better weather to do mine. I bought the complete kit (pump + fan clutch) along with the gates pulley and tensioner kit that comes with a belt from Rockauto.
Check the belt tensioner, make sure it spins quietly.
I appreciate your guys advice but is it possible for anyone to send me links for the replacement parts on rockauto? I am kinda confused about which is of better quality and the correct part number. I am not sure what specific antifreeze my truck requires either any ideas? I do want to replace the serpentine belt I just inspected it recently and it does need to be changed, I might as well replace the hoses while I'm at it. How do I know if I need to replace the fan clutch or not? Thank you!

Here is what I purchased from Rockauto.

GATES 90K38323E - Belt drive component kit
US MOTOR WORKS USEP7270M - Fuel pump and housing assembly
US MOTOR WORKS MCK1067 - Water pump and fan clutch assembly
Thermostat of choice. I bought a Gates brand.

I've read up on Motor Works and decided they were reputable in my mind. I'm replacing the fan clutch because mine is making noise and it's attached to the water pump shaft. My truck has 131k miles on it for reference. My hoses are in good shape so not concerned at this point. You never really know until you start pulling things apart though.

OEM is the only way to go on the WP. And thats coming from the guy who hates OEM with a passion.

Do the V6 Fan swap while you in there. No need to put that useless crappy clutch fan back on.

For Belt use Gates HD

good idea on the V6 Fan swap, many people have done it

disconnect the Negative Post on your battery & open a door to discharge any electricity

Then reach under the shaft on the water pump, you will feel a weep hole, if your finger comes away with water at that weep hole, it is about to blow out the seal.

Belts should be checked for weather checking after 5 years
Hoses are beginning to dry out around that same time.
If your vehicle is not what you use for distance trips, then you can wait before changing them.

Hattan,

How many miles on your truck? Mine has 129K and am thinking about replacing at 150K as a preventative measure.

This is what I got in my cart so far, I still need to know the correct coolant for my truck, any ideas? I will check on the hoses but last I've seen them they were fine and ill also check on the belt tensioner. I would like to hear more tips or ideas if you guys have any, it is my first time doing these repairs so I want to learn more and know what to do and replace correctly.

Buy Mopar, don’t take the chance of doing the job twice.
I sure did get Mopar on the water pump it is pricey but as you said, it's better than doing it twice.

I do have a question if everyone in this thread will read this I mentioned replacing the serpentine belt, belt tensioner, idler pulley, and water pump but even after that still hear a squeal/squeaky sound when I'm accelerating a little bit then it quits but I only hear I when accelerating from a low speed. What could it be? and sorry for my explanation but I would like to get it fixed as it is annoying me and my OCD with wanting my vehicles perfect. Thank you.

Could be the alternator or A/C compressor pulleys.

That’s what i was reading into but I didn’t think much about the alternator as it looked quite new. The A/C compressor I kinda suspect but then again I’m no mechanic or have any experience with that. I notice the A/C compressor or fan running a lot even when I don’t use the A/C and I thought it would be the A/C compressor going bad. I’d like to hear from you guys with more experience than me.

Check closely the ribs on the Alt pulley ..and the AC pulley. The ribs on a 'good' pulley should have squared-off tops. If the tops are sharp (like an upside-down V), that indicates worn pulleys. A worn pulley doesn't mesh well with a new belt and can make a squeaking noise. It'll also wear out a new belt pretty quick. Could also be your belt wearing-in normally, or like another member noted ...an alternator noise perhaps under load.
