I installed all LED light bulbs in my 2016 Ram. All rear lights and interior lights work fantastic. The fog lights work fantastic, but my head lights (BOTH Low and High beams) go out sporadically. Also, my front turn signals function properly, but show "signal out" messages and also have the "hyper-flash" inside the cab. The direction indicator lights flash and produce the audible sound twice as fast as the actual turn signal bulbs at the front end of the truck physically flash.

Per the Ram and Dodge forums, I purchased the OBDLink MX+ and also bought the $49.99 AlfaOBD app for the Dodge Ram and installed the app on my Android operated Samsung Galaxy Tab. I turn my trucks ignition to the run position without actually starting the truck. I connected the OBD adapter to the tablet via blue tooth via the start up guide provided in the package. All indicator lights show power to the adapter as well as connectivity. I connected to my vehicle using the Body Computer tab, then to Select Control Unit tab, then MY2016-17 Powernet (with Connection Status showing Connected), and have been able to successfully start procedures for each and every light individually (ie. front left fog light, front right fog light, etc.).

When I start the test, the individual light I am attempting to make compatible with the truck lights up for approximately 10-15 seconds, the tablet shows "procedure in progress", then the light goes off and the tablet shows "procedure complete". I wait approximately five-10 minutes until I started the next light. I have repeated this process several times but still have the sporadic on/off issue with my headlights (both high and low beam).

Am I missing something or doing something incorrectly here? I have scoured the internet and forums trying to find an answer, but have had no luck. I did not receive any instructions outside the quick start guides and see no instructions on the app to follow after the procedure has been completed. I see there are many people with the same issue of no instructions to follow and still having issues after using this product. I sincerely hope that I can receive help with this issue as I have spent my hard earned money on a highly recommended product that was supposed to be simple to use and provide more ability than a dealership.

I have attempted to reach out directly to OBDLink and ScanTool for help. Unfortunately, there is no way to contact them for technical assistance other than another forum. They provide a customer service number to track orders but NOTHING for technical assistance. Then the only response I got back from posting in the forum was to contact the app developer. Not exactly sure why a company uses an app that they don't support but...... Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You only mention running tests. You have to go into configuration to make changes. Did I miss something?

Appreciate the quick response. SO the reason I contacted OBDLink and Scan Tool was to find out if the unit I got did not come with instructions? Apparently they do not provide any instructions other than the quick start guides. So you may be completely right. I may possible not doing something accurately or I could also be going into the wrong section of the app. I'm having severe difficulty inding instructions or someone who has SUCCESSFULLY been able to use the OBDLink tool or AlfaOBD app.

If you could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it more than you know!!!

I did not have to make those specific changes, but you went to the right area. At the bottom of that list you will see an option with the word configuration. Once you go there you have to select certain options and change them. Hopefully someone who knows which settings to change will chime in. I am sure you can find them in the massive AlfaODB thread though.

Are you just trying to diagnose whether or not you can make the lights function or are you trying to enable the codes for the LED lights? It sounds like your truck is obviously having an issue with the lights you installed. If you just run the tool on test all it's going to do is turn on that particular light. I am not the guy who knows much about running LED, HID's Switchbacks ect but I reccomend posting your question on the actual alpha thread. Alot of guys have posted there and have done this. There are a few things you need to change. There are several places you can change the codes with the tool in the body computer under car configuration to allow for the LED lights and to turn off DTC codes but like I said it's one of the few things I haven't done with the tool. I don't think it's a matter of the tool not working but more you not being in the correct section. Testing the individual lights is not going to change the settings in your truck. You need to go into the body computer and then select the actual settings for LED left headlight present yes/no ect. I think if you post your question on the alpha app you will have some people who may be able to help you out.

Again, thank you for the quick response. I also hope someone who has been through this process chimes in. In the meantime, I will certainly check out the "configuration" tab or section. I know that I have connectivity and that the app works to a point because I can make lights turn on and off. It's jus the settings never stick. Thank you for your help.

I believe you are right. I have been talking with fraleywp and he said the same. It sounds like I'm not using the tool and app correctly. That was actually my original question to Scan Tool, meaning was I using the products the right way. I received zero instructions or operating procedures with the OBDLink MX+ so I have no idea what I'm supposed to do and Scan Tool has not been much help as of now. I will try to search the Alfa link. Hopefully I can find that, but thank you sir for the response.

I also forgot to mention that the LEDs I bought are all from Auxito and were claimed to be plug and play, as well as CAN-BUS compatible.

Here’s some of what you can change to LED, for the 3rd brake that’s called CHMSL led present. My truck is a sport so my tails were already LED but I set the reverse, license plate lights, fogs and CHMSL all to led, works great. My headlights are HID.

I recommend only changing one item at a time, then do the alfaobd key off, let truck sit for 10-15min, then go back reconnect and make another change, then let it rest again etc.....one at a time.

Just wanted to give an update. After getting the help from you guys and also going through the actual "AlfaOBD" thread, I believe (envision me using the air quotes) that I was able to use the OBDLink MX+ tool and AlfaOBD app correctly. I reset the parameters for my front turns and low/high beams and haven't had any hiccups since (again see me knocking on wood).

I would like to extend a great big thank you to those who helped out. Even though the Alfa thread is almost 500 pages long, it was a tremendous help! Thanks to that OP as well. Ironically, this forum and these posts gave me everything I needed, and way more than the product developers ever even came close to.

Also, there is a video on YouTube that many might find helpful. Not sure how to load the link on here but if you search videos from KUSTOMBLACK GUNZ, you should be able to find several of his videos to peruse. He is not the most "professional" sounding guy, but his videos helped out big time and he is pretty amusing to boot.
