I took my truck to the dealership to get my tire size changed in the computer. The first dealership i took it to had their starscan broke, these guys had one that worked in the back collecting dust

I see why they cost so much now. I thought it was a handheld tool, but actually a giant computer on a cart. Probably weighs upwards of 40-50 pounds

Anyways, they tried multiple methods but never could get a new tire size in. Guess I’ll either have to deal with it or get a tuner

I installed a set of Rough Country D2 Running Boards.

Not difficult to install but it relies on a series of flag bolts using existing holes on the inner rocker panel.

In my case my inners had been replaced and half the holes were missing.

So improvised and drilled and inserted a series of rivet nuts in the missing spots.

I didn’t have 10mm rivet nuts per the instructions so I used 3/8”.

The running board material is fairly thin but should do the job.

I don’t think it’s powder coated a few spots are already scratched.

And tried to paint it.

Base coat was absolutely smooth and flat but the clear coat is not.

Maybe in this heat the clear coat dried too fast?

Humidity is the likely culprit to the texture look of the paint giving it a powder coat look. I've found the best temps for fab painting around 70°-72° with humidity no higher than 76%.

Thanks

I read online that if I wet sand from 400-1200 and then machine buff and polish it should fix this.

I’ll give it a try.

Thanks for the info about the humidity.

Sanding that much you need to be careful, once you get past the big texture areas, dont use the 400, us the 400 to get close to smooth and when there is just a slight texture left switch to 1k and above, that way you dont burn through the clear, and remember your factory paint isnt glass smooth so dont make the hood that way...

Also if your not a pro at polishing do some research and watch some YouTube videos, polishing black is never fun

Drove out to the Coast then to Salem, OR to spend the 4th with family. Best mpg I got was 8.5 pulling the Camper.

Hauled home a few boxes of laminate flooring for a little project

Gonna attempt cleaning the old spray-on bedliner off the plastic top half of my bumper. Next tuesday I'm taking both bumpers in to get em bullet-lined

Installed 2017 top half of center jump seat on my 2007 center jump seat bottom. I wanted the cup holders of the 2017 and to keep my lower due to the storage compartment.IMG_0797.JPG

So I got the top half of my bumper cleared of bedliner last night with generous amounts of elbow grease and a scraper

I created hundreds of small scratches in the process but a little sanding and some new bedliner next week will make it unnoticeable

Ordered a new plastic step pad for the rear bumper, and I’ll be going to a salvage soon to get a front bumper step pad since I can’t seem to find one on amazon or really anywhere

Also hauled home some new furniture

Did you have to fabricate anything or was it a direct swap?

I personally put the whole 4th gen jumpseat in mine out of a 2016, and it was basically a direct swap.

Harley did just the top half and if I remember right it basically bolts right in as well

Well it somewhat worked.

I watched a number of videos.

I wet sanded at 600, 800, 1000 and 2000 grit.

I got it quite smooth.

After wet sanding.

I must have done something wrong at the buffing, polishing, glazing and waxing stage.

While the paint is smooth it’s not glossy. I used the 3M A, B, C product.

It’s flat but hazy.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

It was a direct bolt on job. I didn't mess with the wiring yet as there are three connectors on the 2017, and only one connector on my 07'. I may wire up the power plug sometime in the future.s-l1600d.jpg

What about the colour match?

Did you just find a Gen 4 of the same color as your Gen 3?

On an unrelated note, I still have the old ST jumpseat if anyone wants it lmao

Anyways today the rear bumper step pad came in. I can’t believe it got here so fast but it looks good and it’ll get installed next week
