it always surprises me when people who live in the snowbelt and KNOW they will have snow 2-4 months out of the year, still choose to drive cars that are wholly inadequate and with all season tires to boot

(please understand, this is a general rant since I live in the snow belt and deal with this on a daily basis, not a jab at your family at all)

i got my wife in a AWD journey on blizzaks and that car is on rails, even in 3 inches of fresh snow

my boy has a AWD charger on nokians, that one still slides a lil, but it also has the R/T spec hemi

I couldn't agree more. I started out "driving" in the snow at 13 years old and before I was licensed to drive. Being bored indoors we were always outside and almost everyone had a dirt bike, and we rode them! Bad weather was never a reason to stay in, it was always an excuse to go out!

You learn a thing or two going out in the snow on 2 wheels! Some of that was on the street during some of the more severe blizzards. I applied a lot of that experience to autos and have had fun in the snow ever since, with the VAST majority of it being rear-wheel drive and front-wheel drive cars.

I have often wondered whether drivers licenses should be marked in a way that shows a person's competence in bad weather driving. We just don't get enough snow so there is no feasible way to make that happen.

My default method is to ASSUME I'm going to have no traction and I'm surprised when I do have it. Rather than assume I have traction and then panic when I don't. Additionally every job I have ever had has involved driving all day. As of this year I've been driving for 53 years.
OK now I'm just rambling.

oh its hilarious, we get 4 months of winter and 8 months of lousy sledding here

my boys birthday is next month so all his drivers ed was in the winter, most of it in my truck

sometimes id let him drive us to church...we'd be all prayed up before we'd even get there so wed just go straight to bob evans

but you make a good point
with his learners permit he cant drive between 11PM and 5AM (or so) so maybe they should make it he cant drive below 40 degrees either

kinda like when you get a motorcycle endorsement in europe, they start you off on 250cc or less

Used to drive a wrecker for the MA State Police (about 8 1/2 years worth) way back, doing break downs, arrests, recovery and accidents and have seen it all when it comes to accidents and road hazards. Most of the people we pulled out of snow banks were, believe it or not, guys in the 4x4's. They figured they could go thru anything in 4wd, but didn't understand the concept that they had the same steering and stopping power in snow as most cars. And when it was an ice storm, no one is superior.

Boy, I made a ton of $$$$$ doing that back then, but the hours weren't great.

Parked her for the duration of this snow storm unfortunately since I help my brother in law (owns a landscaping company) with snow removal and he's on vacation until next weekend. So I'll be driving an old POS F150 with 3 snow blowers and a couple guys around town to clear businesses sidewalks and doorways. I didn't want to run one of his plow trucks. Stay safe out there to all those getting hammered in the Northeast. Supposed to get around 18 inches of snow and ice from Sunday morning till Monday morning. Also temps are in single digits with wind chills below 0°F.

Had my tow hooks that were knocked off in my accident powder coated. They were done a few weeks ago, but never had a chance to pick them up, so the owner dropped them off last night. $75 to have them done. I think they look awesome. Also decided to 3d print some new bushings since the old ones were pretty beat up. Used some tpu so, they should hold up. Think they turned out pretty good as well.

cleared 4 driveways and 9 vehicles - Loading the blower is a BLAST with the 6" lift (sarcasm)View attachment 579009
Did 18 hours of snow removal Sunday and Monday. Never minded the snow too much, but doing snow removal for a business sucks. Ready for warmer weather! Rather be out camping then shoveling, snowblowing and plowing.

Well unfortunately only thing I’ve done this week with the ram is park it till tomorrow when I drop it off to probably just get a new motor. Drove to work got out to unlock shop door and yup! Definitely a lifter or two loudest tic I’ve ever heard happen out of nowhere. So made the appointment at dealership for tomorrow. 122,000 miles so even if they suggest lifter and cam I’m going to get quoted for a new engine.

Yikes. My 2014 is just about 400 miles behind your 2013. Good luck hope it all works out, please keep us informed.

Also, let me know where you take it if there is a chance you are within 100 miles of me.

I am just taking it to a ram dealer in St Mary’s PA. I will post an update soon as they give me one. Hoping it doesn’t exceed what the truck is even worth.

thats within a couple of miles from when mine went out, i think i paid $8700 for a reman engine with a hotter cam, that included R&R and tuning for the cam, but it was obviously not done by a dealer

Had the check engine light come on for emissions. Checked the gas cap. O-Ring was cracked al to hell. Cap (OEM) was only about 1 1/2 years old. Ordered a new o-ring off of Amazon. Replaced it and light is now off. Crazy that it went bad in such a short time. Never seen one do that so soon.

Those bushings look fantastic. Want to make a set for me? I have a set of hooks without the bushings.

Parked it for the time being. Saturday when the wife and I were on our way to dinner the truck started making a thud noise in the front end. So we turned around and limped it home. It has a rotational thud sound coming from the driver side, and when I rolled the window down I heard a scratching sound coming from the wheel. So its gotta be a wheel bearing or a cv axle. Too cold to look into it right now.

Sounds like it. Sucks that weather has been so cold and only way to get anything done is if you have a garage big enough to work on it. High 35 here tomorrow in PA where I live. Gonna be swimming weather. Lmao! Been well below freezing for a few weeks straight.

Yeah, I know it's winter and I live in the northeast, but this has been one of the coldest winters i can remember. Had real cold snaps, but 2+ weeks of teen highs and single lows not including wind chills. I'm ready to dig my camper out and go camping or maybe take the motorcycle for a spin.
