what size gears

I would like to find out what size gears my truck has. I bought it used and I cant find this anywhere. I don't really want to go taking things apart to count teeth or whatever and there is no sticker on the diff cover. So my question is, is there a way to look it up by the VIN or is there a sticker somewhere that I could look for? I went to Home : Free VIN Decoder - Vehicle Identification Number Check and put in my VIN and it told me a lot about the truck but nothing that I didn't already know. Also, I have seen the trick about putting a piece of tape on the tire and the driveshaft, etc. Just wondering if there an easier way.

I personally think it should come with the truck when you buy it, but that is just crazy talk. LOL!

I also bought my truck used.

Besides the build sheet (which took about a week to get),
there are also a couple of other things you can do:

1) Crawl under the truck, on mine there is a white tag on the axle that shows the gear ratio.
There is also a metal tag on the differential with the ratio stamped in it.

2) You can register your truck at https://www.moparownerconnect.com/oc/US/en-us/sub/Pages/OwnersLogin.aspx.
You can access the same info as your build sheet (Learn & Use section) and also check recalls (needed and performed), dealer performed maintenance - Mine shows the oil changes done by the previous owner (date and mileage)

ETA: Problem is, being used, if the previous owner swapped out the gears and did not change the tags, you might have to do some more work.

If you floor it from a dead stop and you barely chirp, you probably have 3.55's. If you floor it and it chirps almost every time, 3.92's outside chance it is the 3.73. If you gun it from a dead stop and you are toasting them and you have to take your foot out of it, 4,10's. It is very scientific way to find out. Another way is if you are getting good gas mileage, it is definitely 3.55's.

You can always just call the parts department of your dealer give em the vin # and they can tell you what gears your truck has

Booooo. I got 3.55. Found out from the build sheet. Well, I guess add that to the ever growing list of mods. Ha.
