I have an old cobra 25 nw st, and am getting it back to working order, power cord, mic, and antenna.
Question is, what would be a good antenna to get for this. plan on mounting it somewhere behind the cab, either on headache rack or somewhere else. So what would be a good antenna for it?

Thanks,
Zach

Do people still use CB's? I mean, I remember kids (your age) playing with them back in the early '90s but we didn't have cell phones.

eh, not many, but always fun to have, cb was free, one of the old ones my father used to use when he did long haul trucking. Plus, handy for traffic.

You sound a lot like my 16 year old son that had to have a cb when he got his truck. I used to install car stereos and CB's many years ago. I don't think you can go wrong with a Firesstck brand antenna. That is what I put on my son's truck.

Make sure you set the SWR's once you get the antenna installed so you don't smoke the radio. You'll need a SWR meter to set them. You can pick them up pretty cheap from many online sources.

^^x2.

That being said the perfect antenna & mount would be a 102" whip mounted using an NMO mount directly centered on the roof. 102" because that is the wave length transmitted from CBs and center of the roof is best location because of no blocking of the antenna by objects nearby.

I run the Wilson mag mount above and a couple of weeks ago with my Galaxy was chatting with a buddy in his rig sitting about 12 miles away and could have gone a lot further.

I did a ton of work on CB's back in the 90's and I've run just about everything and my best 3 antenna's I've used are the ones listed above, easiest is the Wilson or K40 magnet mount, Firesticks are great, not that hard to tune with a little time, but my favorite of all was running a 102" stainless steel whip, ran it off the back bumper with 18ft of cable and she matched perfect with a Cobra 29 and the 3 other CB's I owned. It all comes down to the look you want and make sure you don't get your cable too long, you never want to have a *** of cable bunched up under the dash, it throws off your match. Length of cable needs to be done in 3ft increments only.
