Hey y’all, out of all the trailers y’all pull- what is the level coupling height distance on your trailers? I have a thread going about drop hitch questions and I’m just trying to figure out what average coupler height is. I verified yesterday that my little utility trailer’s tongue isn’t in a straight line with the rest of the trailer when it sits level- I dunno, maybe they made it that way on purpose but when it sits level, the tongue is about an inch lower in the front than it is where it meets the rest of the trailer. Problem is, since the measurement from the ground to the top inside portion of my receiver hitch is 20 inches, having my little trailer sit fairly level means I’d need a whopping 7” drop hitch to do that because the measurement from the ground to the bottom of the coupling is a short 13 inches. I have a feeling I’d be fine with a 5” drop, or even a 4 inch drop with this trailer but I’m just thinking more along the lines for when I pull anything else that has tandem axle, where level-riding matters.
I can pull my utility trailer at whatever angle I want, but I’d like for it to ride more level, but in tune with trailers that are a lot closer to normal coupler height, if that makes sense. In other words, being that my truck has auto-leveling air ride, I highly doubt that the average boat, or big flatbed car hauler is gonna need anything more than a 5 inch drop...
Help me out....[emoji851]
