I know you take a real shot in the pants buying a new truck, as soon as it leaves the lot the value depreciates. And you'll never get all the extra money you've invested back. I've been contemplating trading my truck in for an upgrade. With the mods I've done and the condition my truck is in I figured Id be ok. I spoke to a local stealership to see what I could get for trade in. They came at me with 22k. That was kind of a slap in the face.
my truck has 15k on it, mods in signature.

Opinions?

I would shop around, eventually a dealer will pay you more.

Sell locally. Trade in they give ya nothing for mods, return to stock, sell parts and trade in, or sell outright. They offer $17,500 for mine...was like, ah, no way

mods dont add value. not to mention a dealership probably doesnt want to be responsible with any potential warranty claims that may be associated with your lift kit. your best bet is to find somebody privately, or put the truck back to stock and trade it in like that.

So they are probably going to ask around 32 for it, hoping to get around 30k. Still 22k seems low. I would not take anything less than 26k and if I were you I would keep your mods, because they will not make the trade in more valuable most places. You could use them on the new truck, or sell them on the forum or online. I looked up the value of my truck just for curiosity sake and have a similar model to you and the value of mine is over 27k trade in with a little less mileage and with ram box and 8 speed trans options.

Last year when I bought my Ram I was offered 14,500 trade for my Duramax. I came home and put it on Craigslist, and sold it a couple days later for $21,500. For whatever reason dealers either don't want trades or just have their heads in the clouds.

They don't want your truck around here with your mods. they don't want to warranty what you did or had someone do.And your going to loose your ass trading.Sell it out right. Your still going to loose your ass most likely.

Dealers gonna give you as low as they can. Give or take a lil. The less your willing to accept, the more potential to make a greater return when they resell it.

Autotrader has worked great for me in the past. They have a deal like 50-75 bucks posted til it sells. Good luck.

yea actually now that I look, there are alot of them going for a lot less than when I was looking. Some are going in the mid 20s. Not sure why so low. Its all going to depend on options (hemi, which transmission, back up camera, uconnect ect..)

The dealer is offering a bit low on the trade, but that may be because of the mods you have. You made the truck in the image you like, but buyers may not have your same vision.

Same situation. I was selling my 2012 Dodge Challenger SXT so that I could get money for the truck. Dealer wanted $12,000 for it - sold it on Craigslist for $15,000. To OP, I'd sell it privately to get the most money out of it even though it may take a while. If you really like the truck you're looking at, I'd probably put a deposit down and have them hold it until you sold your truck privately. That's exactly what I did with my truck.

A dealership doesn't care about 15k in mods or market trade in value. Most likely going to give you a number they know they can unload it at auction for if it sits on the lot and won't sell. Mods mean exactly 0 on trade.

My buddy bought a "used" screw f250 lariat power stroke that came with $40,000 in receipts for after market mods. It had miles in the 3 digits. The original owner never even took possession. He bought it and had the work done and decided he wanted a 350 instead and traded it in. Buddy paid $60k and demanded a full bumber to bumper warranty to cover all the mods. He got it.
