Just got my 2500 back deleted yesterday. The replacement exhaust was supposed to have a muffler but I ended up with a straight pipe instead. I don't think it's too obnoxious, I haven't noticed people looking at me like I'm nuts but it sure seems loud within the cab. I suspect I need the drone dealt with more than the noise coming from the tip but I'd be happy to tame both, I'm not interested in bringing any attention to myself.

I'v got a 4" straight pipe now. Is installing a muffler as easy as cutting out a section of pipe, installing the muffler and clamping it in place? What consideration needs to be given to location?

That is pretty much all it takes. I had the 4" straight pipe for a while but on long road trips it became too much.

My exhaust shop cut out a section of that pipe to install a muffler. I tried a Magnaflow but it sounded bad. So I went with a Corsa dB Series muffler and I really like it. It sits pretty close to the area the stock regen cannister and cat were. We picked that spot so as to attenuate as much raw exhaust noise as we could.

Try a FTE resonator as close to the down pipe as you can get it. The long one will kill the drone along with the straight pipe rasp and leave you with a nice healthy sound.

As mentioned above its a simple task. I like to get it back as close to where the pipe bends to go up over the rear axle. The further back the better.

Let us know if we can help out getting you a muffler. The Corsa DB Diesel muffler is a great choice BTW
