If you have loud noises and it feels like you're fighting to stop - time to tear things down.

I just broke 34k miles on my 2015 1500 today while driving to work and this sums up what I am hearing and feeling. Lots of "groan" right before coming to a stop and while creeping forward. I'm the second owner and I bet it still has OEM brakes on it. The pads feel like they are glazed as there isn't hardly any initial bite. Nothing really jumps out at me from a cursory glance through the wheels but I plan on putting it on a rack and taking the front wheels off and performing a thorough inspection.

I do have a Max Brakes kit I plan on installing regardless because I'm tired of the poor braking performance on my truck.

If you were on a budget... I'd suggest removing the pads giving them a light sanding. To include, the rotors, light sanding. More of roughing them up. (Wear a mask!) Reinstall while greasing the hardware.

Since you have performance pads... Get ready for fun. Look up PowerStop's break in of pads/rotors. This is extremely important!

If it were me, and if there's decent pad thickness. I'd package them up with the OEM rotors... Save them for a rainy day

I have the power stop kit as well - front only, non tow. And i freaking love my brakes!

They're quiet, have GREAT grabbing power. The are a little slow at grabbing on very cold mornings but only take about 4 seconds to get warmed up and they bite hard after that!

I had the same setup on my Titan years ago and loved it on that truck as well. Best upgrade so far.

So, misconception on brakes. Eliminating the 'wear' indicator squeals...

Semi-metallic pads will make noise. It just depends on usage. Some of that noise is from poorly greased brake pads hardware. The thin metal that holds the pads, clamped to the caliper mount. These will squeal horribly at times. Need to apply more grease, good quality syn grease.

If you have loud noises and it feels like you're fighting to stop - time to tear things down.

You shouldn't judge quality and wear by just looking at the pads. Need to see true wear, thmickness vs milage, rotor wear, etc. Looking at the pads straight on, it's hard to say.

There isn't anything wrong with OEM parts brake pads etc. There is better aftermarket parts.
Also the rotors on my 15 went to **** on the backside in a year and a half. The rotors don't like the snowbelt apparently.
BTW you'll replace front pads twice as much as rear..
The OEM pads on my 15 sucked ass. There was no real grab to them right from the truck being new.Reminded me of the red lifetime warr. pads that GM came out with. They would last forever but they wouldn't stop you.My 19 seems better right out of the gate but we'll see.

You'll like the Max Brakes.I put the drilled, slotted and coated rotors with ceramic pads on my 15 and it was a 100% better than stock.I picked the most expensive kit they had and it was still around $260 to my door for all 4 corners.I would buy from them again in a heartbeat.

The groove down the middle is a wear indicator correct? So technically these pads should have had plenty life still?

This is a little off topic but here goes...I live on a NC mountain and the roads here are a mix of dirt/gravel. The kind that creates clouds of dust when traveling. I’ve found that drilled/slotted rotors do not last in this type of service especially on the rear because they’re always eating the dust. Anyone else have this experience? I’m about to upgrade my ‘17 Express brakes and most likely will go with solid rotors.

That's good to hear. I have used them before when I bought an Elite XDS kit with pads for my 2012 Wrangler. I was very happy with their performance on my Jeep, which like my Ram, had marginal stock brakes.

I bought another XDS kit for my Ram. I just have to find time to install it.

There was alot of pad left, but the guy at autozone said they were not suppose to crack like that.

I have Power Stop Z23 kit with drilled and slotted rotors (mostly for looks) on my Magnum R/T. It stops great, is completely quiet and no brake dust, but they don't grab too good the first few stops when cold as mentioned earlier, but after that, they are great.

Ummmm.... Are you being funny or an A$$. So much so, you posted this twice...hummm

Either way, I had thought these posts are to help each other. I'm trying to help save people money; to buy more A$$ kool-aid.

I'm a huge fan of PowerStop products. And unless you have crazy (extra) money go for it. I'm accustomed to peeps who like to save money. Now if you do have tons of extra money, let's talk.

Just trying to help without the snarky or pointless input.

Well first off you assume a lot but hey your all the time right , or force people into it. The way you talk, I can tell off the bat ,you would not cut it as a friend to a lot of people with your attitude. Oh and for the record >>I don't buy cheap brake pads, when it comes to mine and my family,s life.

No noise, just vibration on the pedal.
you might have warped rotors, that can happen when you drive lets say in the warm weather and you travel through a deep puddle, the water cools down the hot rotor at a very fast rate and when you apply the brakes it warps your rotors .That will give you a funny feeling in the brake pedal.
