Is it possible I've been swindled? I have truck at shop for axle leak and clunk. They sent me this image and there is no tag on transfer case. But as you can see in image there is a plug not going to anything.Screenshot_20230522_141311_Firefox.jpg

The shop is confused as to what it is or if this new transfer case in here is even the right transftransfer case.

What year/model is your truck?
Has this transfer case been in your truck all along and the 4x4 works?
Is it a rebuilt or new replacement that was ordered incorrectly for your application?
Do you have the knob to shift to 4x4,or a manual lever on the floor?

I recently purchased it. It is a 2013 Ram Power Wagon with a manual shifter. No knob. Was told by place I bought it from that everything worke. 4x4 worked, locking diffs work, etc. Truck had new transfer case put on by person who traded it in. Looks like new or refurbished transfer case but it doesn't have the tag. The shop I have it in now doesn't what transfer case it is. Best I can tell from searching out images is there are like 8 different cases. This one with electrical cord coming off of it is one of them. Your truck should have the Borg-Warner 44-47 case in it
I don't know what the connector is for...maybe someone more familiar with that transfer case will shime in
Does your indicator for transfer case position (2 high,4 high,4 low) work?

There was only one transfer case option in a 2013 Ram Power Wagon which was the BW 44-47 manual shift version as listed above. I believe the only other option in a 2500 gas truck was the BW 44-46 which is just the electric shift version.

Quick search on RockAuto lists two part numbers for a 2013 Ram 2500 manual shift. One states "Does not have a electrical connection coming out of the rear case half" and the other states "has a electrical connection coming out of the rear case half". They are most likely identical otherwise with the exception of that, however I'm not sure right off hand what it does. Looks like maybe only 1 or 2 wires? Maybe an extra speed sensor or range position sensor? And maybe your truck simply didn't have that from the factory? It's not unusual for a manufacturer to revise or update a part for a later model vehicle, but it will still work on an older vehicle......for example, it is possible that a newer model year truck needed that signal or sensor for some reason but your 2013 did not. However it's a lot cheaper and easier to just make the one replacement transfer case with the electrical connector that can be used on the older or newer trucks, and just leave it unplugged on the older truck. Not saying 100% for sure that is what is happening, but could be the case.
Assuming you have personally verified 4wd works and the 4wd and low range indicators work on the truck?

Thank you. I believe you are right and it does work. Now I am hosed on rear differential.

OK , now what, you where rambling on about the case, why did the shop send you the picture in the first place, is it leaking, or the axle.
what is going on with real end, leaking?
If you don't trust shops why are you there?
