Been thinking about replacing my y pipe with an aftermarket one just wondering if anyone had any opinions as to whether it is worth the cost to do so.

Its cheap enough to do. Maybe $100 including the Ypipe itself.
Go for it

If your having the muffler replaced you might as well. If you still have the stock muffler it may not be worth it.

Ive had a borla xs pro si/do muffler with 2 1/2" pipe from the muffler out, got rid of the resonators and went with bigger stainless tips. Just wondered what to expect with changing the y pipe.

You may notice it a little. I felt a little difference. But I also switched from flowmaster to magnaflow at the same time.

Problem is if you do it cheap it won't likely be stainless pipe. I bought the Y and then never did it because they wanted too much to do it.

Same here. Still have mine in the box because I couldn't find a shop that would do it for less than $130.

Same here!!! I heard stories of guys that had a y-pipe installed for like $50. The shops around me wanted 3x that :( So the y-pipe is sitting unopened on the shelf in my workshop.

I have the exact same problem as most of the guys here. I liked all their posts, so you'll know which issue I'm talking about. I ordered the Y pipe from Moe's at the same time I got my Vararam, but the cheapest install price I could find (for just the Y pipe) was minimum $130/$140. And that was at the sketchiest shop I could find.

To me, that's not worth it. My Y pipe is sitting in the box under my bed until I either (a) magically learn how to weld, or (b) find a shop that isn't going to charge me an arm and a leg to weld the Y pipe on.

I wish I had known about the ridiculous install price before I bought the Y pipe. My opinion...unless you're a welder or have a friend who is one...don't get a Y pipe.

Im not sure why everyone is on the paranoia bandwagon about pipes not being stainless...
Your factory system isnt and nobody is worried about that rotting or whatever..

Even if you HAVE to have stainless and you spend $200 total on the part/install, Im willing to bet the gains per dollar are still way better than buying a CAI for instance, and everyone says to get one of them...

idk

I just literally couldn't afford to have the Y pipe installed. And with my VR I've noticed good gains in acceleration and gas mileage that wouldn't be seen with just a Y pipe.

My understandnig is that atleast for the Gen 4s, the factory system IS stainless and that's the problem with chop shop exhaust work. Spike, or Vinnie probably wont have stainless, or will substittute the cheap stuff to make a bigger buck. Or, they'll charge a ridonculus mark-up to stay all stainless.

That's why the mufflex kit is so attractive, already has OEM equivalent stainless adapter piping attached to a magnaflow muffler. :burnout:

The factory system IS stainless. They have been for years. Even on my '05 Neon, it was stainless. My shop wanted $250 to cut-weld in my new muffler. I told them I would send the muffler back, and buy a Mufflex kit before I'd do that. I chewed them down to $169. Thus, I'm not going to bother with Y pipe. I'm not a huge beleiver in the mod anyway. Yes, I have seen pics. However, in the end, the output is still 3". If you have a larger mouth on a funnel, it's not to to flow better on the bottom. Just my theory.
