I have searched high and low, and I cannot come to a conclusion in my exhaust search. I would like to modify my exhaust but do not know what setup to go with. Here is a little about me. When I have the time, I like to tinker on my truck. I also like the thought of being able to return to stock if necessary. I have considered all combinations of Y pipe, Mufflex, Mufflex drone suppression pipe, exhaust shop install, and cat-back. I plan to add a CAI, PTB, and maybe a tuner down the road. The concerns I have are possible exhaust leaks with a DIY install and the dreaded drone. So here is a list of questions for the brain trust that is RamForum.com.

- Y pipe…is it worth it? Sure it is less restrictive, but will it make that much of a difference? Also, is there any bolt-on kit (cat-back) that includes this or will it have to be welded in?

- Has anyone actually tried the drone suppression pipe? I am not a fan of having to disable MDS or manually shift my truck to stay away from drone.

- What is the best cat-back system? It seems the more popular are Magnaflow, Borla, and Corsa. Since these kits delete the resonators, will the drone still be there?

The big issue is the drone. It is completely subjective and in my search I have seen folks say it was not there and others say it was terrible with the SAME setup. I thought the resonators were meant to reduce it, but I can hear it on my stock setup. I am beginning to get frustrated and would like some guidance to point me in the right direction. I may just have to bite the bullet with something and see how it turns out.

I hear ya, ramnut.
I want a 24" muffler to replace the stocker, but Mufflex shipping to Canada is SO expensive I'm going to get some quotes from exhaust shops to weld in a 24" Magnaflow. I don't know whether to go 5x8 oval or 5x11 oval (I'm leaning towards 5x11) as I want little extra sound- just better flow.

On my truck we just replaced the factory muffler with a flowmaster original 40 series muffler.

Its a loud muffler, but it is quieter than any other truck that I have had because the exhaust is run all the way back. Its still loud outside the truck, but drone and cab noise is minimal.

It was alot cheaper than buying a 'exhaust system' but it still sounds good.
