All the info from the oil gurus say they are shipped with yellow bottle Pennzoil 5-20 but the tech at my dealer said Chrysler would be doing oil changes with the P gold bottle semi syn blend 5-20 even gave me a letter stating I get 2 free oil changes with syn blend oil.

wow. my invoice form the first change says 0w-40 full synthetic. I wonder if they are lying. I REALLY hope not.

can they get away with saying one thing on the invoice and doing another? I even asked the a service department guy what they would use in my truck, I didn't say anything about 0w-40 pr PUP, and he said they us PUP 0w-40.

On z RLK, PYB flush being almost black oil
Think may know the reason
There is an Amsoil study on 10 different 5w30 syn oils published 2013, my unpopular QSUD was one of them, yea!
The study showed test results including four ball wear test & oxidation deposit test results among others
Redline had by far the most deposits than any of the nine other oils.
So, PYB being a super high detergent oil , really cleaned up on all those dirty carbon deposits from the 8k+ miles on the RL,
Making the drain a dark color after only 560 miles of run.
However, RL had the lowest volatility factor.

PS, search Amsoil 5w30 synthetic oil study for more details.

Note:
My un popular QSUD had excellent wear protection factor

Was surprised that Valvoline Syn power had really good numbers compared to Mobil one EP & royal purple.

Agree With Rodram conclusion , believe Amsoil is the best oil overall and would not worry about the no API donut, since phosphorus is below 800 ppm
To meet current API SN specs & 146 ppm Mo is good enough, 600 ppm is over the top.

One thing I noticed on mine is the amsoil 5-20 warmed up faster than the 5-30 to operating temp by several minutes, not sure if this is good or bad but my tap quiets faster which is good.

Yes, I noticed the same thing. Slower flow maybe?

Fram Ultra XG10060 cut open w/just under 14K miles on her. She Still looks to be in excellent condition! This is why I use this filter.

A local amsoil rep gave me 7 qts of 5w20 xl, filter, and 3 qts diff fluid. He was out of the ss but free is free.
XL is a great oil as is OE. Plus it has the donut so no warranty worries. Only thing I can see bad about it is the TBN is rather low for the advertised 7500 miles...

That's pretty damn impressive! Might consider one of those in the future...

Have called Dodge\ RAM on several occasions and ask several RAM service managers about oil & warranty.
All said on warranty claims, look for dirty oil and or sludge build up upon valve cover removal.
Dodge\RAM does not test the oil.
Timing chain is the most prone failure in the 5.7 in my opinion.
Ask the 2013 challenger and charger folks about broken timing chains in the 5.7
The chain tensioner was redesigned for 2014 for the Dodge.
There is a Q&A session on BITOG with the shell\ Pennzoil answer man about timing chain wear.
Do not know if RAM 5.7 uses the same chain tensioner as Dodge, have to look at part #s.
Do know the camshafts for 5.7 Ram, challenger & charger are all different part #s.

as firm as they are about it im lost as to why they dont test it. it is cheap to test. i wonder if they dont do it because it would be very hard to prove that an oil brand was the culprit.......and that could start a suit against RAM by the oil company that was being used in the hypothetical truck that the engine failed in.

All RAM could test is viscosity, if too thick of oil is used like 10w30 in cold weather start ups the ECU could and most probably would record an engine
malfunction.
There is a case study posted somewhere on the internet of a 2007 dodge Durango 5.7 that used 10w30.
Check engine light came on and stored P0521 DTC, oil pressure not reaching specified at 1250 rpm.
Also,a P0300 DTC code can be activated Indicating a random misfire detected.

GOT IT.

do you think it would be possible for a suit against ram if ram clams an oil caused the problem even if it was the correct weight?

Saw a video of the oil change places ripping off people so i am going out and getting the stuff I need to do it myself. I am not trusting my new truck to those clowns

What brand & weight is best for a 5.7 liter Hemi engine, with CAI, low resistance exhaust and Hemifever tuned ? Also is there a specific filter that preforms better than any other ? or is a filter a filter ?

Thanks for any help,it is appreciated

Anything is possible but the question to ask, can you afford the legal costs to find out?

The safe bet is to follow both weight and whatever MS specification is called out in your manual.

In a perfect world, RAM or FCA is on the hook to prove what caused the failure and whether you were in compliance or not with the maintenance. The reality is RAM/FCA will find any crack in the process on the owners part and take that out. That is why it is imperative to follow the owners manual recommendations for both weight and MS spec and not skip on either to give them an opening to deny warranty claim.

Welcome to the thread. You will get an infinite number of answers to this question.

Personally I would stick with the Mopar filter and a Pennzoil oil for your truck if you're worried about warranty.

Royal Purple makes a great filter and the Fram Ultra is another good one. I'm in the process of trying Amsoil for my truck as is Rodram. Some guys including me have run Redline with good results as well.

stick with one of the bransd that are in the "poll" at the top of this page with the addition of a few other that are well respected...

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum ( or just the "Ultra")
Red Line

this thread is FULL of info to lead you in the right direction. start reading. I was in the same spot as you and I am just taking the safe route and sticking with the "PUP" recommended by the manufacturer for now. it can be had on Amazon for a very reasonable price.
