There is a clip on the connector that allows it to slide out of the curved protector, and then you can determine pin 11. I just did this on my 2017 Express last month, Ran a wire from the connector under the engine PDU to C1/A pin 11. I had to disconnect all of the BCM connectors to get enough slack to pull down the harness and work with the connector

I figured it out, the connector slides out of the plastic locking holder..

On a side note, the VT/BU wire is populated in pin 11 of the BCM, and in slot 1 of the PDC (2500). Ran wires from slot 1 and 2 to the hood lock. Enabled auto start
Enabled hood ajar sense
Set hood ajar sense to 1k
Ran RH relearn

No auto start, hit the button and the doors lock, lights flash, horn honks...

So, I replaced the overlays on my keys from a $20 set from Amazon, Remote Start wouldn't work. Programed the $20 FOBIK's, Remote start works...

Did you drive your truck in between programming the remote start and programming the other fobs?

So I finally got to look at the BCM a little better today and noticed PIN #11 is not populated. I’m missing the harness from the fuse box to the BCM. Any one make this part or know where I can get one? I already have the hood latch with the sensor so I don’t really want to just ground out pin 11. I will if it’s last resort.

Thanks

Quick question - the connector in the C1 slot of the BCM, is there a locking tab to just remove the connector from the socket?

I understand about the lever on the connector assembly, just wondering about unplugging it from the BCM...

Never mind; figured it out...
Also discovered it’s easier to look at the C1 connector and extract the actual connector from the hood if you unplug the connector beneath it as well...gives you more harness to pull down and manuver.

It appears the BCM socket terminals are difficult to source; way up in the thread a Delphi/Aptive number was called out, but shows as obsolete/discontinued.

This may be the newer equivalent unless someone has better info.

Those aren’t actually the correct terminals for the BCM, but they “fit”.
Kostal 32124734123000 are the correct terminals- https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/KOSTAL/32124734123000-L?qs=W0yvOO0ixfFjDQ0rJ%2BHBUw==

(2020 Ram 1500 Classic Tradesman, Quad Cab 3.6L gas, tip start).

I did not have the harness to the hood latch area.

1. Ordered correct hood latch w/switch: 68159725AB Hood Latch $34.58

2. Ordered wiring kit w/mating connector and wires - this allows you to make up wiring from the hood latch to the plug beneath the PCM but I just used the mating connector and wires and made up my own harness to the underhood ground lug and direct to the BCM C1 connector: 68065018AA Wiring-2 Way $27.85

3. Nothing installed in BCM C1 pin 11 (Hood Sensor for my particular truck); ordered the correct BCM socket(s):
http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail...Q0rJ%2bHBUw==&countrycode=US&currencycode=USD
32124734123000-L
KOSTAL Automotive Connectors
I ordered a few (at $.60 each) and practiced a bit to make sure I had the right crimp tool & technique.

4. Key fobs examined; mine had 3-button overlays (Panic-Unlock-Lock) but have ALL the contact points on the circuit board. Ordered new overlays from Amazon for 4 function to include Remote Start - KAWIHEN Keyless Entry Remote Key Fob Skin Replacement for Chrysler Town AND Country Dodge Durango Grand Caravan Journey Ram 1500 2500 3500 Jeep Grand Cherokee GQ4-53T M3N5WY783X IYZ-C01C
by KAWIHEN
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0859BM3Y8/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_QWoEFbC2PHM9N 2 for $10.

5. Programmed the BCM to let it know the switch was there and tested switch state with AlfaOBD.

6. Enabled the rest of the parameters using AlfaOBD and then reset the RF Hub using my PIN.

Works great!! Total spent in materials for this project about $80; already had the miscellaneous wire, wire loom, ring lug for ground, heatshrink, etc.

Big thanks to Jimmy07 for calling out the correct BCM terminal and 1500ram12 for the Alfa walkthru.

NOTE: If you think you have everything right and attempt to Remote Start...and then your truck locks itself and honks but does not start:
1. Recheck your wiring.

2. Verify your programming. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1xQvdHVTgRwKQRKSBh1K2rkCqg5dlpSi0

3. Look (using AlfaOBD) and check the logs and examine Last remote start event; if it says something about Remote Start Inhibited you may have tried to start it before everything was wired and programmed correctly.

Look for a section like this:

Remote Start Enable Data:
Ignition Status: RUN Position
Remote Start Mode: Off Inhibit
Off Inhibit: Yes
RKE Messages Received: No
Any Door Ajar: No
Key in Ignition: Yes
Brake Pressed: No
Hazard Lamps On: No
Remote Start Enabled: No
Remote Start Programmed: Yes
Auto Transmission: No
Hood Switch Programmed: Yes
Start Counter: 0
Failed Counter: 0
Remote Start Inhibit Cause 1:
Inhibit Reason: Not enabled

If everything looks right and the hood switch is working and readable then go back into programming with Alfa and look at Active Diagnostics (this is where you usually select Car Configuration Change).

Don’t select that...look for Remote Start Temporary Disable ...you have two choices...Enabled or Disabled.

Oddly enough the parameter name and the choices are inconsistent...Remote Start Temporary Disable, set to Enable, allows it to start.

Go figure... [emoji849][emoji2959]

Just so people are aware you could actually just ground pin number 11 and set the hood resistor to 500 x 2 The only downside is it will not disable if the hood is open but the remote start will work just fine The only downside is it will not disable if the hood is open but the remote start will work just fine

True...but someone will do that, be working in their engine compartment and have the fob in their pocket and accidentally bump the start button twice in 5 seconds...

Darwin Award.

As someone previously suggested if you don’t have a hood switch put a toggle switch under the dash to interrupt the sensor input to the BCM as a maintenance safety switch.

One other upside to adding the hood latch with the integral switch is it can be included in the VTA (Vehicle Theft Alarm) settings as an input.

This is why I always I’m not the battery when I’m working on a vehicle
About half the shop thay put in remote starts don’t bother with a hood and safety switch

specially when they have the T-stile harness type I am honestly see them completed install in about five minutes

The original write-up worked perfectly for me! Doing this and adding the OEM bed lights took a total of less than an hour! Thanks for this! After reading through 36 pages of this prior to purchasing, I became nervous, but I'm glad I attempted it all. Less than $100 in parts, and less than $60 to have it programmed.

I had to call 2 dealers prior to them understanding what I meant by adding it to the sales code. First dealer I spoke with wanted almost $200, and after talking to 6 different people, they were down to around $130. Second dealer had no idea what I was talking about, and kept quoting me the price of the kit and installation. Third dealer (dealer I like the most, but is 45 minutes away), knew exactly what I was talking about and it was $54+tax to add remote start and factory bed lighting sales codes. In and out in ~30 minutes.

Does anyone know if a 2016 Ram cab chassis 4500/5500 trucks us the same pins 5&6 of the the connector under the PDC like the 2500/3500’s use for the hood latch?

Edit: 16ram2500/3500 also use pins 1 & 2 for the hood latch. (1500's get 5 & 6?)

Doesn't look like it for a 16ram 4500/550 DP Chassis, looks like pins 1 & 2 ...

Good afternoon. I'm Matt, and I'm new here as well as a new Ram owner. I'm looking at adding Remote Start to my '19 1500 Classic SLT 2wd Hemi, and have a couple of questions that search hasn't helped with.

What is Immobilizer, do I have it, and is it necessary? I assume it's an anti-theft feature. The part number I've been looking at for the remote start kit (82215050) claims that the truck must have both RKE (Sales Code GXM) and Immobilizer (GXX). I got my equipment list from the FCA link, and I see "Remote Keyless Entry with All-Secure" as well as "Sentry Key Theft Deterrent System." The dealer gave me an Options Report for my truck, it shows GXMS (Remote keyless entry with All-Secure) and GXXS (Sentry Key Theft Deterrent System) and seems to agree with the equipment list as it should.

I don't see "Immobilizer" anywhere, is that going to keep me from being able to install remote start? Thanks in advance.

You should be fine. You will need the correct hood latch. Your truck will already have a connector for the hood latch but in many cases the harness terminates before it reaches the BCM. This would be the only issue you would need to figure out by checking to see if the correct wire is connected to your BCM. In most cases it is not. This is why the factory kit comes with a hood latch harness as well. There are ways around connecting the hood latch to avoid running the harness but I don't recommend it. Basically after you do all of that all you need to do is enable the correct codes with the Alfa tool or have the dealership do it. One other thing to note is you don't need to replace your fobs. All you need to do is replace the rubber push button cover with one that has the option for remote start. The actual fobs are the same on these trucks. All the do is change the covers depending on what options they have.
