According to this CR report Jeep was 20th on the list. No that could be the Patriot or other models dragging it down. Check out the forums. I was in the jeepforum.com, lots of good info.

Renegade & Wrangler were panned, as they always are. They are ultra-niche market vehicles.

I love my Ram. First one saved my life in a terrible accident, this one is great, and I’m sure the next one will be just as good. Hemi of course.

I didn’t know they were changing the Grand Cherokee nameplate. Probably offended someone. That’s why we have the Washington Football team now, etc, etc.

They might as well go ahead and get in front of it and re-name it quickly.

That issue is NOT going away.

So that means the name is available so it's good for Jeep. They can rename it the Jeep Grand Redskin.

My wife's Patriot, with the 6 speed, has been bulletproof. 125,000 trouble free miles. 4wd system is flawless, 2.4 is a sweet little 4 banger.

You must be thinking about something else.
I've seen reviews giving it bad ratings, so that comment wasn't from personal experience. Good to hear your experience is positive.

If I had to guess I would say Tesla influenced that #1 rating with a large donation to CR not to mention the media and those in power want to push us all away from ICE vehicles so pretty much everything Tesla touches will turn to gold. I'm certainly impressed watching their vehicles on the dragstrip but I sure as HELL don't want one.

I do hope that this is you being sarcastic, because IF you truly believe this you really don't understand Consumer's Union, the organization that owns and operates Consumer's Reports. While I have lots of issues with the political agenda part of CU, there is no doubt that the testing and evaluation part of the organization is as honest as it gets. Period. They set the standard that all other organizations who do this work should follow.

The money raising arm of the organization has no influence in the testing and evaluation section. They accept no ads or donations for products tested. They actually buy every item they test. They take no "donations" in kind. The CR testing lab is top notch and always has been.

I have degrees in a field that that takes demographic and statistical evaluation very seriously. I spent my career evaluating organizations that do statistical analysis.

Where does CR's data fall short???? It is a survey ONLY of Consumer Reports members and subscribers. While this is a large sample, it is NOT a randomly scientifically selected sample, and therefore biased towards demographic group of well educated, nonminority population. So, if you are white and have college degree or more, you are likely to be a consumer's report member AND survey respondent. So that's why I take this survey with some skepticism. I am such a member, and I do fill out the surveys, but I take the results with a bit of, skeptical knowledge of how flawed they are. And I am happy that my Ram is in the top 3 of course. Especially if I were selling it, but I am not!

thanks

The Subaru's auto's are now CVT transmissions. Their long term ratings are dropping like a rock.

Mopar or No Car.......

Nissan has also put CVT in a few cars they shouldn't have... like my sister's old 2011 Murano. The worst transmission I ever drove. It was a big heavy car with a powerful and large 6 cylinder engine. It was one of the weirdest accelerating cars I've ever driven. Fast accelerating with lots of low end torque but then high revving at high speed and sudden drops in gear ratio once you got to speed. She used the gate shifter all the time to lick it in gear. Anyway, at 125,000 miles it started to whine. LOUDLY. Mechanic and dealer said it would die within 40,000 miles. I sold it ON EBAY to an outfit that shipped used USA cars to Puerto Rico.

Well...except for the Suzuki Samurai thing. CR has 0 credibility.

I know of a few people who are very disappointed with the Subaru's they bought 4 to 5 years ago.

We had one of their last front wheel drive only cars, a 1984 GL. It sucked. At 4 years old it was so rusty the driver door chime would ring going around curves. The transmission died at 40,000 miles. It was a three speed automatic that our mechanic called a simple tractor transmission. It cost $900 to rebuild, a lot of change for my pockets in 1987.

No they got the Suzuki Samarai problem right, it was tippy. Where they got it wrong was that they said it was tippier than other SUVs. It the the first tested for this issue, and they really should have tested a bunch of SUVs together for a comparison. The same issue was in other SUVs. And the lawsuit against CU was dismissed.

The biggest issue with the Suzuki Samarai was some stupid people trying to drive them like they were sports cars.

My issue with CR is lacking reviews. I remember years ago I was looking for a cordless weedwacker. In the reviews it mentioned what size string, what it came with but left out a few facts that made the review totally useless to me. They didn't mention what battery technology, lithium ion or nicad ( it was about 10 years ago when nicad was still out there). Also did not mention typical runtime on a charge or how long it took to recharge. They rated black & decker well so I bought it only to find out it took 8 - 10 hours to charge so back to the store it went. Wound up getting a Worx (1 hour chg). I've seen many lacking reviews like that with CR

I find this more than VERY interesting!!!!!!!!! In my business, there is a "Tesla" service center here and I do business with them. Now, talking with service tech guys, I've asked them if they would buy one? Answer, "hell" NO! Why I ask? Yes, they are getting better but still have a long way to go before I would want one. Why I ask? The battery packs are still a very long way off from what "they" claim and Tesla them self's will NOT release ANY or even SOME information about there cars as far as servicing. Here's where I come in. The shock absorbers are made by Bilstein. OEM Bilstein shock are made by contract to the customer, Tesla. That I totally understand. But, why if that shock absorber is NO LONGER made or available, why not release that info so one can service that shock absorber? Nope, no info or parts from Tesla or Bilstein, period!!!!!! On the earlier Tesla cars, two seater sports cars, Remote gas cylinder shock absorber shocks, no parts, no information about the shocks or get this, no or any replacement shock is available!!!!!!! They aren't bad design shocks, but like ANYTHING will sooner or later need servicing.

When it comes to the battery packs, how long are they suppose to last? Can you say 3 to 5 years and guess what service charges are for these battery packs? Start at $1,500.00 each and it goes up from there. Every time I go over there the shop is FULL, really full of the Tesla cars (new and old) with most having there battery packs serviced because some of the (I say thousands) of double A size batteries are bad. What happened to this 8 to 12 year battery life? All this plus more and it's like the people who buy these cars DO NOT care one way or the other! Even if the cars carbon foot print is MUCH larger that todays gasoline cars, it's a chest pounding thing to say I own a Tesla! I'm not saying they are bad cars, just a little ahead of there time for what they claim them to be.

Tell me this, what do you think will happen to electric cars if and when a oil company(s) and car company(s) get together and engineer a car who's gas engine will be lets say 50% efficient for using gasoline as far as energy used for power? Mileage will go bonkers, tail pipe emissions will be cut in half and all of a sudden that electric car is kind of very, OH HUM! Besides being way expensive! Now, if only man-kind can find out exactly what electricity is, a much better battery then can be produced. That electric motor can be made so much better and efficient only then will the electric car be a contender. Today's electric motors are half the size of what they were to start with but still suck battery power like a 14 inch water pipe at 100 psi wide open!
But now, I believe it's only a chest pounding right thing! Just like the 85 year old man who's driving a 800HP exotic car ! Do you really think he's driving it like it was made to drive? Heck no, he goes to the"club" (at 35 mph) and says to everyone who will listen , look what I drive!!!!!!!!

Tesla is making the best electric cars that have ever been made. They go further, faster and with better reliability than anyone has been able to do with an electric. While they are way ahead of the curve, like on the bleeding edge, they don't want third parties involved and they demand total control. Software is updated without owner input or permsions. No franchise dealers, no third party techs and certainly nothing other than OEM Tesla parts. Say it again: They Demand TOTAL CONTROL over your car. . . It's a business model. Its been working for them. So far.

Not saying this will work forever. I don't like it.

Or, their buyers are often cult-like and are very satisfied with their decision irrespective of the vehicle itself. Buying a Tesla is buying a narrative, not just a vehicle, much like Harley-Davidson was in their prime.

I would but a Suzuki intruder 1500 and out do a Harley anyway on a long trip.
