Test drive both the F150 and Ram and see which one you like better. I was kind of in the same situation as you. I narrowed it down to a F150 Supercab 4x4 with the 2.7 V6 and the 2018 Ram Quadcab 4x4 with the Hemi.

I test drove the F150 and really liked it and was ready to buy, but decided to test drive the Ram 1500 first. I thought the Ram had a much better ride and just seemed to be a better truck. The Hemi has what I call easy power. It doesn't take much effort to get it moving.

Easy decision for me...better truck and the 2018 Ram was much cheaper than the F150.

RamQ, I traded a 2016 F-150 Supercab 4X4 with 2.7 Ecoboost for the Forester, so I am very familiar with the ride and the capabilities of that great little engine. But it was like berthing the Battleship Missouri at the grocery store. Looking for a bit more nimble truck this time, with a good, solid ride. Nothing flashy, just affordable, comfortable and dependable for a retiree. And useful. A truck is useful. A Forester much less so.

@BillinNM the Melloy guys are really good, and have an awesome service department. One of the few dealers that have good sales and good service.

BillnNM. You will definitely like the ride of the Ram 1500 much more than the F150, but it's still a full size truck. I had a 2012 Subaru Forester a few years ago...great handling SUV and easy to park.

Sounds like you may need a smaller truck. Too bad they don't make the Dodge Dakota anymore. I used to own a 2000 Nissan Frontier that I really liked. I considered buying a new Frontier, but the gas mileage is about the same as the Ram and I wanted the extra towing capacity.

I have a 2014 Big Horn Crew Cab 4X4 with the V6/8spd and have been amazed how great it works for everyday use and light trailer towing. 23-24 MPG highway, better if I slowed it down. Averaging around 20 MPG around town in a rural area. I tried the Hemi, but didn't feel it offered much more for typical use. Gets better mileage towing and on trips than the 2007 Cadillac SRX it replaced. Had it four years so far and no problems at all.

RamQ, I drove a 2010 crewcab 4X4 V6 Frontier for six years. It was a flawless truck and very easy to drive, but got only big-truck mileage. 2019 will supposedly bring the Navarre-styled Frontier, plus of course the revived Ford Ranger, another truck I had a good experience with. Not sure I want to wait and see.

No test drive, as I realized the dealer did not have the truck promised.
That said, geez, Dodge is blowing out the 4X2 quad and crew cabs from the Warren plant. They seem to be as cheap or cheaper than the harder-to-find regular cabs. I wonder if I could survive driving a 4X2 prudently, with tire chains kept handy.

Where are you located as a lot of times a dedicated set of snow tires / wheels will get you through.

I am in south-central New Mexico, and I am thinking a good set of winter tires and some sandbags in the bed might just cover me for the rare occasion I am dealing with snow or mud.

With a 4x2, a good set of Michelin LTX M&S tires with about 100lbs in the bed will do you fine.

My Dad has a 2500HD 4x2 and does just fine with the weather here in NM. As long as you don’t plan on going on the logging roads outside of Cloudcroft in Jan-Mar you will be just fine with a 4x2

Thanks, Jeff.

Of course, he got him some really tough all weather bags and 3 bags of cement, I think 90 lbs each. Wrapped them up in the bags and taped them down with gorilla tape. Going on 6 years in the back of his truck and still strong. You would probably only need 2 bags, as yours would be a half ton.

I have a 2017 Laramie, I like it. Went to the dealer yesterday for a recall. I looked at the 2019 Laramie, the interior is fantastic, it has everything. Many upgrades. Go look at one. This one was 51,***.xx. Dealer said approx. 10,000.00 off list.

I read somewhere that ram trucks make panties drop. Might have been fake news, but seemed credible to me.

Judging by the missus' reaction later the first evening after she watched me drive mine all the way home from the dealership (from her car)?

It ain't fake news. ;)

I've also noticed, even when driving in granola-soaked Portland OR, that the ladies do tend to look a bit longer at you as you drive by... (and disturbingly, not just a few gents...)

Don't ask how many of them just flat-out stare at you out here in the smaller towns and countryside. (Could be because I'm just that damned good-looking, but the bathroom mirror has determined that to be a lie.)
