I find this more than VERY interesting!!!!!!!!! In my business, there is a "Tesla" service center here and I do business with them. Now, talking with service tech guys, I've asked them if they would buy one? Answer, "hell" NO! Why I ask? Yes, they are getting better but still have a long way to go before I would want one. Why I ask? The battery packs are still a very long way off from what "they" claim and Tesla them self's will NOT release ANY or even SOME information about there cars as far as servicing. Here's where I come in. The shock absorbers are made by Bilstein. OEM Bilstein shock are made by contract to the customer, Tesla. That I totally understand. But, why if that shock absorber is NO LONGER made or available, why not release that info so one can service that shock absorber? Nope, no info or parts from Tesla or Bilstein, period!!!!!! On the earlier Tesla cars, two seater sports cars, Remote gas cylinder shock absorber shocks, no parts, no information about the shocks or get this, no or any replacement shock is available!!!!!!! They aren't bad design shocks, but like ANYTHING will sooner or later need servicing.
When it comes to the battery packs, how long are they suppose to last? Can you say 3 to 5 years and guess what service charges are for these battery packs? Start at $1,500.00 each and it goes up from there. Every time I go over there the shop is FULL, really full of the Tesla cars (new and old) with most having there battery packs serviced because some of the (I say thousands) of double A size batteries are bad. What happened to this 8 to 12 year battery life? All this plus more and it's like the people who buy these cars DO NOT care one way or the other! Even if the cars carbon foot print is MUCH larger that todays gasoline cars, it's a chest pounding thing to say I own a Tesla! I'm not saying they are bad cars, just a little ahead of there time for what they claim them to be.
Tell me this, what do you think will happen to electric cars if and when a oil company(s) and car company(s) get together and engineer a car who's gas engine will be lets say 50% efficient for using gasoline as far as energy used for power? Mileage will go bonkers, tail pipe emissions will be cut in half and all of a sudden that electric car is kind of very, OH HUM! Besides being way expensive! Now, if only man-kind can find out exactly what electricity is, a much better battery then can be produced. That electric motor can be made so much better and efficient only then will the electric car be a contender. Today's electric motors are half the size of what they were to start with but still suck battery power like a 14 inch water pipe at 100 psi wide open!
But now, I believe it's only a chest pounding right thing! Just like the 85 year old man who's driving a 800HP exotic car ! Do you really think he's driving it like it was made to drive? Heck no, he goes to the"club" (at 35 mph) and says to everyone who will listen , look what I drive!!!!!!!!
