I'm not sure what else I can say, once again there is a bulletin posted in oil filter thread with manu's and the smaller filter throwing codes, those manu's do not have the bulletin on the larger filters because they don't throw a code. To the why, anything I could say would be a guess, it is what it is.
Long time ago as recorded in syn thread I had a puro synthetic that made my truck tick right after an oil change as well, took it off and and put back a RP same size and tick was gone. Now, this was before the puro re-design, but puro was junk. The pic posted shows to the why in that case, puro didnt have enough drain holes in the cylinder. Now, they went to the cheese grater so they are good, but no explanation to why a company would have so few holes in the first place evcer.
The smaller filter has been known for ticking and has bulletins out by oil filter manu's. Because FCA is such a cruddy outfit, they know about the ticking condition and believe it is not filter related so they didnt put a bulletin on oem filters. With hemi tick, one thing is for sure, it is up to every owner to find their own answer because nobody else is gonna help. This issue has been discused in the oil filter thread, whatever works is what you should use, but nobody should be using the smaller filters imo. This was Puro versus RP, you can see why the purolater ticked and that is why they have later on the end, because I'd use that filter much later then other filters.
This is large puro synthetic versus large royal purple, those lack of holes in the puro made my truck tick. Enlarge the photo and look down the center. If you read the syn thread towards the end, you also see the new puro filters somewhere in between fram/rp and wix xp, closer to wix xp, not impressive.
The two dogs in this graph professionally tested, wix xp and your purolater. These are tested after the puro redesign, this is how that filter currently filters. Which has nothing to do with holes, they were bad at flow and their media has poor filtration. That is not my opinion, those are facts, just so you know.
I get that you are upset with royal purple filters because your truck ticked, but if you were participating in the oil filter thread you would know why and understand it has nothing to do with RP, it is indeed the smaller filter, been posted and discussed many times in that thread. The answer is to move to the larger filter, not a brand that is poor at filtration. If you are mad at RP and that is that, maybe consider fram ultra that came in first in both tests in that thread. But the larger filters across brands did not cause tick, except for the old puro boss that was a very poor design as you can see. Hopefully this will help you andrew, that is my intent.
