I still have extra 10-48 which I’ll attach as the third picture, but DO NOT BUY 10-47 produced in 2020!!! I’m guessing I’ll be going with the K&N pictured one (fourth picture)when it’s time for new filters since unsure if the Ford ones would work (last picture)?

Why? 10-47?

We need someone to dissect one for our application for sure.

10-48 OLD version = good

10-47 NEW 2020 version = BAD

I know everyone was a die hard royal purple fan and so was I until I read this on 540 Rat blog!! This guy is as smart as they come so I fully trust what he says and the research he does.

Yeah even with all that text I cant figure out if they really intend on the 10-47 even being for our engines....

And the SRT filter fits perfectly, and I figure Mopar wouldnt allow stuff to be drastically changed on it since its spec-ed for their higher priced vehicles. One thing I dont mind buying at a dealer, I guess.

EDIT: just checked and the rp website still showing 10-48 for my 2017 RAM 1500 (Hemi). V6 shows a completely different (non "10-") number. Neither show 10-47.

Good to know then! So seems like we’re in the “all clear” for the 10-47 quality issue. But even the 10-48 is questionable now...honestly think I may try K&N next or just go back to Mopar. Who’s to say the NEW 10-48 that may come out 2020 as well won’t be just as horrible as the 10-47. Just the fact that RP thought it was a good idea to make their filter like garbage is enough for me to no longer trust them or advocate and buy their products in the future. Without 540 Rat doubt any of us really would have caught on to this!

I appreciate the information, being a fan has nothing to do with it, if there are new issues we want to know. Thanks for posting. Rat blog doesn't test base oils, his tests only test vii's when they are at full strength. ATSM's are real science. That is why hemi's tick on his top oils and don't on his bottom oils.

Well it was being a “fan” and the results and quality we were actually getting at the time which no longer seems to really be the case. I don’t trust RP now and won’t advocate or purchase their products in the future due to these shady quality practices.

Glad I could share this new information and hopefully it helps some people out!

I wish he did some/more testing on Redline. Didn’t really have anything in regards to it.

Im not so sure we should be surprised, weren't they sold to Champion at some point? Right around when places started having inventory issues with all the RP filters.

I was never thrilled with the performance of them on my Hemi anyway. SRT filter seems to work the best for me, but I have not yet tried Fram Ultra.

I will ignore Purolator until kingdom come when they started having tearing issues on the size I use on my G37. I went to Fram Ultra on that car and never looked back. Also used Fram Ultra cartridge for wife's car first DIY oil change.

Yeah great name for that filter, puro-lator and in much much later. The worst filter I have ever personally used. Now, since then they have redone their filter, but once you burn me it will take the absence of choice before considering your products again.

The writing has been on the wall as far as Royal Purple filters, thus why many of us bought twenty or thirty years worth. At a minimum I wouldn't trust buying anything more than one filter from them, and cut it open. I haven't seen something that says they are completely garbage yet, but from recent experiences I'd say they went from an a+ to a b- until and if we get more verification.

SRT sounds like a great option, bottom line spun microglass is the way to go, so another thing that will beneficial to the forum is if guys start cutting open SRT filters like we have done with RP filters to make sure the media is holding up with extended miles. Maybe knock RP of it's perch, but I need to actually see and hear a few experiences before saying that personally.

I will try to find a good way to cut open mine when I change my oil. Might not be for another couple or few months but I will post in the synthetic thread.

What is the part number for the SRT filter that will fit the 5.7L?

Edited to add: I think I found it. 5038041AA

Some of us may have a little too much time on our hands, researching on the Internet is not healthy at this point in time. Stick to what YOU can control.

Looks like the RP 10-47 does not have any RAM applications (summit racing). It does have Chevy Silverado 1500 applications.

I wasn’t researching anything. Been meaning to read that GIANT blog for 2 years now finally did it when I had some down time. I’m one of the fortunate ones who gets to work through this entire pandemic. And I can control both not buying RP anymore AND sharing this knowledge with others who never would have ever stumbled across this information. Maybe it’s false? Prove him wrong then. Guess your mad you got one of the bad filters [emoji23]

Hmmm.... issues noted on another forum from October 2019 show inconsistent openings in the center sleeve. They're built in Poland.

Maybe the Fram Ultra is the best bet for now?

I'd supply the link to the other forum discussion but I don't think that's allowed here.

I saw those pics too.

The one I got last October from my dealer was perfect. I suppose look at it before you buy it.

Ill start looking at the Fram Ultra too, Walmart has them so they are easy to obtain once its safe to go out again
