Before it I drove a 1995 Toyota Tacoma for 23 YEARS. After seeing this brand new 3500 on the lot and then having to drive back home in the Tacoma, it was like getting in a go-cart. Actually the whole Gen thing derived from 1st Generation body style to come with a Cummins. Then the body changed in 1994 to what is referred to as the 2nd Gen. Then 3rd, 4th, ....

What are you saying? That the "Generation" thing only applies to the 1500 models and anything that comes with the Cummins and still doesn't include any of the 2500 gas models?

Sidenote: the 2500/3500 chassis and rear bed and cab didn't really change structurally much. All they got in 2019 was a front end update so that's why folks will say a 2023 2500 isn't a true 5th Gen in their opinion.
Body style IS what makes the model years though. For example what makes Gen 2's are the same body style which happened to run 1994 to 2002.I get that. When I think 5th Gen, 4th Gen, etc., all I think about is the model year. Body style doesn't even come into play - in my humble opinion, of course.
You have a 4th gen. RAM’s body designation for your truck is “DJ”. DJ is Rams body for a 4th gen 2500, and that has been its body name since 2010. DS is the 4th gen 1500, and DT is the 5th gen 1500. It doesn’t matter what appearance changes were made to the 2500 in 2019, RAM still designates the body as DJ, so it’s a 4th gen.
