Ok so I was dumb and got the open diff and I'm kicking my self in the ass now but anyways i want/need a LSD cause it's snow 4 months outa the year and one tire fire is no fun. I was going to wait for a truetrac but after a e-mail saying they have no plans to even make one for my truck I guess I won't wait and I'll get one now. So now my question is I'll be getting 4.56's or 4.10's and want the most outa my LSD. Is the factory LSD that bad? And should I go with aubern LSD instead?

I thought OEM for 2014 only came in 3.21 or 3.55 standard, with 3.96 as an option.
4.10 and 4.56 might be avaialble from MOPAR, but are not going to be stock RAM 1500 speciifc.
That would make after market your best bet. You might want to contact Matt from Moe's Performance (link---->) he carries the higher ratio diffs.

Somebody with more knowledge than me should be along shortly though.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the factory LSD. I don't know why that was mentioned in a previous thread last week, but I have yet to see a single failure on the ZF rear axle that has been in these trucks for over 3 years now.

There is not an aftermarket LSD that is drilled to accept any aftermarket gears, so you will either need to have 1 machined, or stick to the factory Mopar 4.10's.

I think the big issue people have with it is how useless it is when one tire has zero traction, it essentially turns into a one wheel peel. That is my issue with it at least.

I have had mine in some very soft sand that was more than 12" deep, and I always had 2 tires turning in the back. Are you experiencing this in ice/snow or mud?

Ice and snow, mainly ice. Or in off camber situations where one tire is in the air (yes I know a locker is required for that but I've seen a clutch style lsd at least provide some sort of torque transfer to keep you moving. The ram lsd doesn't do squat when one tire has zero or next to zero traction.

Are you positive that your truck has the factory LSD? I had my truck on jack stands last month to try to diagnose a squeak in my brakes. I lifted the rear and put it in drive. Both tires were turning while free spinning in the air.

Hi OP and All,

I went through all this last year when I got my truck and saw two distinct spin lines. Also what I have experienced and tested and tested and tested, because everybody said I was nuts is that when I go 4LO this thing LOCKS the back axle. Yes it locks it. don't know how, don't know why, and don't care either just know it does.

As for the factory LSD it just works. Op I don't think you will be at all unhappy with the factory LSD and 4:10 is a lot of gearing.
Good luck and enjoy,

Believe that is you want but unless you have a power wagon or actually installed a locker it isn't locking.

Yes I am, both my 1500 and 2500 have had them. Like I said, if both tires have close to the same traction they will both spin. If you put both in the air or put both in the snow or mud or sand they will both spin. Here is an example with my 1500. I recorded the video for another reason but it shows what I'm talking about. I know in this case a locker is best but the limited slip in these trucks are content to just let one tire spin if it is something like this case. One tire on blacktop and the other on ice.

It is indeed a LSD and and not a locker. I agree though that non factory ones are usually more aggressive. I don't know if there are a lot of options on the ZF axles though. Too aggressive of LSD and or a locker and the back end kicks out on ice. I think the reason the OEM gets a bad name is because the old ones they put in the 9.25 corp was pretty prone to failure or just giving out. We don't always look to see what years we are talking about where this thread is very clear being titled 2014 LSD. I don't know if Auburn makes one for these but it seems to be a great unit in my 9.25 corp.

The new Auburn is drilled to work with any factory gear, so yes, it will work with the factory ZF 4.10 gears. It will not work with any aftermarket gears for the previous 9.25.
