Fuel pump sending unit it’s pretty common. But you have to drop the tank

@Quick_Shifter already said it but in my experience saying the same thing over by a different person sometimes clicks.

Your fuel sending unit in your gas tank needs to be replaced. It cost me $100 for the part and about 2 hours worth of time.

If you don't replace it nothing bad will happen. The gauge will probably continue to work for a bit when you fill up the tank. Otherwise just hand calc your fuel milage so you don't run out of gas.
