So after having the truck for a short time I couldn’t deal with the stock bulbs anymore. Not being sure what I’m doing in regards to long term I decided to simply throw in some Phillips Crystal Vision Ultra 9005’s in. Watched a few vids and didn’t look bad so off I went. Got the first headlight out and was quite surprised, there’s no round access cap in the rear, instead it’s a flat plate cover with 5 small 5/16 bolts. Remove that and you have access to the bulbs. None of the vids I found showed that but oh well, went pretty smooth anyway. They came right out without removing grill. So I didn’t expect the 100% more light hype but they are better and I can actually see now, probably 40% better is more like it. Probably do HID in the future.

Let me know if your interested in a HID kit. We offer Morimoto HID kits and they offer a Mopar specific kit that works great! I have them in my truck and love them. We also offer discounts to all the members here

Which HID are you looking at? I live out in the country and the stock head lights are pretty unsatisfactory at night.

I’ve had to take my headlights off my 14 and now my 18 at least 15 times and I’ve always had to remove the grille. No idea how u did this or how you got both bolts out the front of the headlight and then popped it forward and out to get the headlight without grille removal.

I think it’s annoying that u need to remove the headlight to replace the bulb. Poor design!

I run 55w elite morimoto ballasts 5500k hid bulbs and FXR projectors and the mopar 15+ harness. You wouldn’t believe how much of a difference they make.

Did all of that tuck inside the headlight housing or did you drill a hole and use a bushing?

Get yourself a magnetic 1/4" drive 10mm socket and a long 1/4" drive extension ,and you can reach the bolts holding the light housings in place.I use my cordless drill with the above and you can have the lights out in a couple min's. I fought HID's in my old 13,and after the first time of pulling the grill,i went and got the tools to remove the lights with-out pulling the grill.I had those damn Morimoto HIDS out 13 times in less then 6 month's,finally junked the HIDS and went back to using good bulbs instead, and swore i'd never do HIDS again in a Ram.When they worked they were a wicked set of lights, the only thing is they never worked for very long.

So what do you run in yours? Projectors? Even with the better bulb I put in its marginal. I remember seeing something about using modified H11 bulbs. Anyone done that in Projectors?

I am running the 9011 Bulbs in my Projectors. Purchased 4 on Amazon for the best price. They work well and the Mod on the tabs is simple. Lighting is much better. Nothing like Hid'S but better.

So what do you do clip the tabs a bit?

Yes. Match up the 9005 with the 9011 and you will see what to clip. I scored with a utility blade and then used a side cutter. Very easy to do

Why are original headlights so weak. I can't wait to upgrade

No hole. I knotched the bottom of the cap where the sealing gasket goes on the cover. I ran the two 9006 (headlight power and high beam splitter) as well as a D2S to amp adapter out the knotch spot. The cover still seals fully and you don’t have put a enormous hole in the back cover. Plus there is not a ton of room out the backside, there is a steel support there.

Jeremy recommends it this way and I’ve never had a problem. This is the 2nd Truck these headlights have been on and like 3yrs running.

Interesting. I’ll give it a shot. The grille takes like 5 min to remove tho so it’s nkt a big deal.

Surprised you’ve had issues with HIDs. My 14 had them with the mopar 13-14 harness for 3 years, and the same ballasts and bulbs in running on my 18 now. I just had to get the 15+ harness for my 18 and it has worked flawlessly.

The issue with constantly removing the grill is eventually one of the tabs will break. Jeremy had me on a weekly mailing list I went through so many ballasts on that damn truck. The lights were awesome, but I was lucky if i'd get a couple weeks out of them before one would go out.To tell you the truth Morimoto soured me on HIDS,i'll never put them in another truck I own,as they'd leave me stranded with one headlight in the middle of nowhere at 4 in the morning, when i'd be coming through deer/antelope country and trying to make time. I'm not the only guy who's had issues with HIDs and Fiats canbus system, some guys get lucky and they work great for years, while the next guy has nothing but issues with them, just seems to be luck of the draw on whether they'll work good or not

+1 I also wanted to stick with halogen so I wouldn't have to cut my dust covers or change my wiring. The Philips CrystalVision Ultras are significantly better than stock.
