2018 1500 Hemi

Friend tried to get truck to go back from 4x4 to park and would not. Would do it in 2wd but not in other setting. Said it showed service needed. Took it to the dealership with 27K on it and they had it all day. Calls right before they closed to say it was done and they needed to talk with him. Picked it up from the receptionist and there was a $110 charge. Stated the truck needed to run for an hour so that the ice would thaw around linkage and they cleared the code.

I’m sorry forgot to mention that we had 4”s of snow around here. His question is why would this be the case since it’s a 4WD vehicle and he was told he has electronic trans so there should be no linkage that ice could form around.

If it’s the 8 speed, there still is a cable for the manual park release. If snow/ice gets jammed up around the cable/lever, it can put pressure on the lever causing it to move, doesn’t take very much pressure. This will set codes causing the issue he had.
