A subject ive gotten completely mixed answers for, would swapping 0w-40 for rotella 15w-40 in my 6.4 Hemi help and extend lifespan? I ran my 2011 wrangler with 3.8 using 15-40 and sold it running with no issues at 130k miles and I beat the soul out of it on the trails never had a mechanical issue. I also run it in my 5.3 2000 Silverado with 250k miles no mechanical issues. I’m pretty biased towards Rotella 15w-40 because I’ve only had positive experiences with it but I also don’t know enough about oil theory to confidently swap

As long as you avoid cold piston slap as in cold flow is adequate to keep that away, everything else should be fine. 40 weight is 40 weight, so once you are running there is no issue. Additive package is fine, but you might wanna consider a moly treatment as rotella and low saps diesel oil omits moly or has it in low quantity.

I run that in my 6.5TD and it is approaching 200K miles with no blow by. It’s been a good oil with 3K OCI but i know it has been rated for combustion engines but I don’t recall the endorsement for spark fired engines. I use 5W40 Mobil 1 Euro oil in my 5.7 Hemi with good results which was highly touted on this forum in the past. It has the FS label on the bottle that some say stands for “full synthetic “. I have always disagreed. Most oils today are full synthetic and I don’t think they would need that on the bottle to market the product. I always thought it was a subliminal indicator that this was a full SAPS oil, which it is.

If your stuck on using Rotella T-6 then go with 5w40 not 15w40...

Like Mike says, if you want insurance against cam failure, get your moly additive level no less than 250 ppm.

IDK what Rotella has for moly additive. I wouldn't think it is high enough because it's not a specialty oil for racing engines. So add LubeGard.
