Just confirmed the Redline C+ is good for the transfer case on the BW 44-45

I have the 44-45 Borg Warner Xsfer case . Didn't you service yours with the Redline C+ ?d31b9d664f8469de0e34ffad43cc67f8.jpgeb90b57cd7e92f94da41baf127489397.jpg

Nope I had to use the special Mopar fluid. I talked with Redline tech support and they recommended against using C+ in my BW44-44 because BW has very specific frictional specs for the 44-44. I did try Amsoil SSMVATF in my 44-44 because they said it was spec'ed for the 44-44. I ended up dumping it and putting the Mopar fluid back in because clutch engagement was delayed and just didn't feel right.

But in your case with the far superior 44-45 you should be good with C+

Nice write-up @R.L.K.!!! I need to get one of those t handle Allen heads. Starting those bolts with an Allen socket while holding that heavy MH pan was NOT fun...

I think what makes it a little easier just to have somebody else run a floor jack with the pan sitting on it and have them slowly raise it up with you guiding it while laying underneath the truck. Take a steel plate and tac weld it to the jack so you have a nice big surface for the pan to sit on. Then just cut the tacs when done.

That fluid was still good, but next time look at finding the return line from the tranny to the engine. Then after you drop the pan and button it up and fill it up, have someone slowly pour your fluid down the neck as you have the return line emptying into a container. Many youtubes on it, when I get around to doing mine I'll post it up. 100% safe flush. Just like brake stuff, when you see the liquid go clear, your done. Way easier to do tranny then brakes, cause brakes you have to do 4 points and have someone pump the brakes. Just like you don't want the master cylinder to go dry, you don't want the TqC to go dry. Both methods fairly safe, the return line doesn't spit faster then you can put it down the neck.

I was gonna do that but I chose this method because I'm all alone doing it . Pretty happy so far as I sucked out about 6.5 qts and lost another full qt with the filter change . Now that I have a drain plug , I'll just drain & fill a couple times & then I should be good . In the future I'll probably drain & refill annually ....way overkill I know but it's easy and not too bad on the cost . I'll probably change my filters again at 100k intervals in the future .

I'll try and find a good one and post it or PM you. Because the pan is so full, it gives you plenty of wiggle room. You can do the job on your own, just have everything ready and the funnel ready to go. If you use a clear gallon jug to catch the return line fluid, you can roughly figure out when you need to dump a qrt in and if it is going too fast turn the truck off. Just for adding, it would be helpful to use some old qrt bottles, as you probably are buying the c+ in gallons. Just fill the qrt bottles.

Yeah always check fluid on an RFE transmission in neutral, the pump doesn't run in park. With that in mind you could just shift into park to stop the flow while doing a flush...

Knowing that we should keep in mind the pan drop should be done at the same time without driving or being in neutral. Also, you should keep track if possible how many qrts you lost during the pan drop and only refill that much before using the cooler/return line to get the rest.

To anyone who's dropped their pan or changed your pan on your xsmn .
I Highly Recommend Tq checking the bolts once the xsmn is completely COOL like in the morning prior to any driving .

The 65RFE recommend tq value is 105 " lbs , I had 35 " lbs of tare , so my final tq was 140 " lbs .
Anyway as expected this morning after I did a long test drive yesterday all my bolts moved significantly.

Hope this helps someone !

Can't remember if I mentioned this before but Last summer it was 95 out and my wife went into the store real quick for a couple things. When I parked my trans temp was about 140 which is normal for my truck in 95* heat. She was inside for a max of 15 mins. I usually don't idle my truck very often at all but I did then because I had both kids in the back and it was so hot. When she came out and we got ready to go I looked down at my trans temp and it was 166, the highest I've ever seen it. After that I if I have to idle the truck in the summer I put the parking brake on and shift it into neutral so the fluid circulates through the cooler. Just something to keep in mind with RFE transmissions.

Just checked torque on my pan. Some were still good somewhere just a little loose but nothing too dramatic. Thank you for reminding me as I planned on doing this A day or two after installing it but forgot.....:slap:

I wonder if it would have been that hot had you put it in neutral? That is with Redline or factory oil?

That was last summer so it was the factory fill. I'll try it in neutral this summer when I get a chance...

Anyone ever sent an oil sample in to a lab on the 65RFE Xsmn ?

If so please post it up here so I'll have something to compare with as I'm sending in a UOA on my xsmn to Blackstone labs.

Well , I just sent my xsmn fluid sample in to Blackstone labs.
47,000 mile FF .
I'm certin the UOA sheet will show the oil was in good shape , it looked pretty good when I drained it .
My owners manual says to change the fluid & filters @ 12 years or 120,000 miles ......unbelievable ! No way I was gonna wait that long
