Hi guys,

Have a 3500 SO 68 RFE.

When I talked to the salesman he recommended to only use gear 1-5 when towing
on the freeway. (Eliminating gear 6)

Going up steep grades he said use gear 4 if it is hunting between 4 and 5.

My travel trailer is about 9000 lbs fully loaded. So not so heavy.

I fully understand the reason to go to 4 on steep grades as it prevents unnecessary shifting.

Would appreciate if you would share how you are using the gearbox while towing.

One other thing when towing I like to keep the RPM between 1450 & 2100, 2200 tops but that's me, I have read they can do 2700 and go down to 1200 with full Torque around 1600-1700 RPM this is for the SO engine not HO..

I go with the owners manual. Don't need tow/haul mode unless the tranny is doing a fair amount of hunting. If it is hunting in tow/haul mode, then use the ERS to find a low enough gear to stop that. For me, that is only in BIG hills, like out in CO. Once out of that terrain, I dial ERS back up to 6.
