The radio is running on 17.11.07 currently. I have heard that being a 14' radio it will not be able to have the soft key for the backup camera but I find it hard to believe that will always only be available on the newer radios because after installing the Customtronix Enigma Premium I have the controls menu which the radio did not have before the Enigma and when selecting the Cargo camera soft key (used for my front camera) I can then click on the backup camera through that screen at the top left just takes a bit longer and not as quick.

My truck is a 14 and my radio is a 16. I enabled the cargo cam with the alpha tool and I access my backup camera the same way you do. I really don't know why your trailer hitch soft key is not showing. I know two guys with 16b and up trucks that have installed the 8.4 and the icon popped right up. The only thing I do know for sure was both of the radios they installed were out of 2016 trucks but I have no idea if that makes any difference.

I also have a '14 truck with a radio from a 16, running on 17.11.07. When I turned on the cargo cam option the Controls menu appeared right away. The standalone Cargo Cam button did not appear for several weeks and the backup cam icon has still not shown up. I can switch to the rear cam after hitting the cargo cam button as well. My assumption is that whatever option in the BCM tells the radio software to show the standalone rear cam button simply isn't there on a '14 BCM for the '16 radio to see and the software in a '14 radio probably doesn't even bother to look for it, even if it's in the BCM.

I believe his truck is a 2016 and his radio is a 2014, also you are correct the trailer hitch camera option is not available in the 13 to 15 BCM so there is no way to activate it on those years.

Question I have is....
Do i need to use that all the time?? For example, I want to make some changes to some other settings that are in the BCM (lights, trailer etc) that don't effect the other control modules. So can I just plug in the Bluetooth MX reader to the OBDII port, connect the Android tablet and make changes....without the need for the bypass cable AND the 4 digit PIN????

Only need the 4 digit Pin if doing TPMS on Keys. Unlock cable needed all the time.

On 2018 trucks you will need to use the security bypass harness everytime you use the alpha tool so it will connect to your truck. You do not need the trucks 4 digit pin code unless you are making changes in the RFH hub such as tire pressure settings or programming key fobs.

As others said, you will need it to make any changes. You can only view the settings without the bypass. However, I installed my bypass cable without removing the existing ODBII port. I just plug the bypass into the existing ODB port and the mx into the bypassed ODB Port without changing the permanent mount.

If I go to the dealer I can just tuck the bypass up in the dash and the existing port is still functional.

Do you have it set to to DRL_Optional or Canada? I think you only get it with optional chosen.

Okay, I will look thank you. My Ram is a 2017 but the 8.4 RA4 I added myself is from a 2014 Ram.

Searched "2012" for this thread and there was some back and forth as to compatibility. I emailed Alfaobd and he said it will work, "except some modules which will be updated soon". That's confirmation enough for me!

Here's what seems to work best:

DRL Configuration: (Set to Optional DRL)

DRL Dropout Enable: Set (No Change)

DRL Lamp Location: Dedicated (No Change)

DRL Lamp location: Select high beam, low beam, fog lamp, turn signal, etc

LED Dedicated DRL Present: Set (No Change)

Right Dedicated DRL Lamp Output Present: Set (No Change)

Left Dedicated DRL Lamps Output Present: Set (No Change)

DRL customer setting enable/disable: Not Set (Change to SET)

Daytime Running Lights CSM (sets the CSM) Select “yes”

Left Side DRL Voltage Target: 7.4 V (No Change)

Right Side DRL Voltage Target: 7.4 V (No Change)

Dedicated DRL Lamps Open Circuit DTC Enable: Not set (No Change)

Installed some DT Moto LED tail lights today on my 2018 3500. These were the 100% LED models where the backup lights are also LED.

Doing the following allowed the tail, brake and turn signal lights to work without any ballast resistors or DTC.
LED Stop Lamps Present: Set
LED Rear Turn Lamps Present: Set
LED Tail Lamps Present: Set

The backup lights weren't as friendly. Setting the following still allowed a indication of backup light out on the EVIC and set a code in the Body Control module.
LED Reverse Lamps Present: Set

Good news was setting the following got rid of any warnings.
Rear Lighting DTC Disable: Set

This thread has gotten so big it is hard to find certain posts. There was a member who enabled the DRL"s and had the controls show up on his 5" RA2 radio. He posted a picture to verify. He didn't set any extra codes other than the ones posted that have been verified. There is no extra setup for a certain radio. I think you mentioned one of the codes didn't seem to set. Have you gotten that code to setvyet?
