I was poking around in the radio settings and saw there is an option to change the vin. I have a uconnect 5.0 from a 2017 in my 2014. When I read the log on alfa of the radio it shows the vin from the original truck still. Would changing the vin to my truck cause any issues? Im curious because Ive had some strange radio issues recently and thought maybe this might help.

Are you using the Windows or Android version of Alpha? I have the Android version and when I pull the radio info the Vin readout looks like this:

Code:
VIN:

Which looks like a font issue, but I've not seen anything else in Alpha show up that way.

I don't remember seeing but also wasn't really looking. Is there a setting for led turn signals?

Im using the Android version. The VIN readout is plain readable text of the VIN of the truck the radio came out of. I know this because I got the VIN from the seller on ebay.

My radio is a VP4 out of a 2016 (in my 2014). Can someone with a factory VP4 and someone else with an upgraded VP4 run a test and see if you get a readable VIN#? I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the radio "phoning home" and noting a mismatch, which the RA2 would not be able to do.

Yup.

CBC Features Configuration:
LED Rear Turn Lamps Present: Set
LED Front Turn Lamps Present: Set
LED Front Park/Marker Lamps Present: Set

Factory projectors get both the last two as the turn and park lights are the same modules.

Perfect thank you. I do remember seeing that now when I was scrolling through today. With setting led turn to set will that eliminate the need for a canbus style switchback?

I have factory projectors (and their accompanying LED tails) so I haven't played with that. I have turned on the equivalent settings for the Reverse and License Plate lights and what it does is to change them to a steady voltage feed rather than a PWM feed, thus eliminating the flickering that PWM causes with LEDs. I used can-bus compatible LEDs in both places, so I can't say for certain that it will do anything with the Bulb Out warnings. I was not getting any bulb out warnings before changing the settings and I do not have any additional resistors on either. (I did get a warning once on a reverse light, but the bulb was actually out and needed to be replaced under the company's warranty.)

My reverse lights, cargo and license plate lights are all canbus leds and I haven't had an issue with them. I even had cheap ebay led license plate lights in and never had a issue. I ordered non canbus switchbacks so I'm curious if they will work now.

I think you'll be our test person then. Give it a try and let us know how it goes! :)

Does anyone have a detailed write up on how to turn on tow mirror puddle lights/blinker lights?

Setting LED SHOULD stop both the PWM as well as stop the bulb-out condition, if it exists. I say SHOULD.

NOTE: The cycling of light from PWM isn't always visible to the naked eye but usually is via a photo sensor on your phone.

I posted some videos of the pulses and what they look like when LED is not set. You couldn't tell with the naked eye -- was too fast.

For me -- Even if you don't get a bulb out condition -- I believe it's better to have those pulses not going to the LED lights, if possible. ;)

The settings are in the "Known Working Settings" link in the very first post of this thread.

I have the projectors from the factory and I tried this alternate method. It it made no difference in the brightness level of the turn signal DRLs on my truck. Has anyone else tried and actually seen a difference using it?

Also, just a thought on the subject, Canadian trucks with projectors from the factory run the turn signals as DRLs as well (and are unable to turn them off, at least not without using something like Alpha) and I haven't seen any complaints of failures because of it.

Now, if someone could just figure out how to get the High Beams to work as DRLs on factory projectors, I'd happily switch to that.

There is an option for high beam DRL in Alfa. What settings have been unsuccessful??

Unfortunately it only works for the quad style headlights or those who originally had quads and swapped to projectors with an adapter harness (ala Retroshop). It does not work if you have projectors from the factory. With factory projectors the setting appears to take but the high beams do not come on as DRLs. It was discussed somewhere back in the previous 4500+ messages in the thread. :) I even submitted it as a possible bug to Alexey. He said he'd look into it, but never got back to me.

Sorry if this has been discussed. I just found this thread yesterday and was starting to explore AlfaOBD. I have only made it through about 20 pages of the 443, so this may be covered somewhere :).

I have a 2015 Ram 2500. I purchased the AlfaOBD app for Android. Before purchasing a new OBD tool, I decided to try my existing scanner to see if it would work. I have a Vgate Scan bluetooth scanner. I connected it to my truck and was able to pair it to the Alfa app. At first I couldn't connect to any of the modules using the default OBD interface, but then I switched to OBDKey Bluetooth and was able to connect and read info from modules, but I didn't see any options that would actually allow me to make any changes.

I wasn't sure if some OBD interface devices are read only, or if I am just using the wrong interface setting. Another option is that I just haven't explored the tool enough and wasn't in the right section. I don't think it was this as I clicked on the icon with the car with the hood open and didn't see many options for most modules.

I just wanted to check here before I spend another $65 on yet another OBD tool (don't ask how many others I have bought and played with for a variety of vehicles :) ).

Nick
I have a vgate Bluetooth and haven't had any problems so far . A few settings prompt for I believe mx blue or something with pins shorted or something, others on here could probably chime in with details. But so far, anything I have wanted to do on my 18 have worked with the vgate.

So a buddy of mine came across a raspberry pi, he says it can Android programs like alfaobd, torque and they have an app called car berry which monitors vehicle gauges, GPS and has a black box you can hook a separate monitor to it hook backup cams and things like that to it. Looks. Like a pretty sweet unit I don't know if I'd be able to figure it out but I'd sure as heck like one. Pointless post but seriously cool check it out.

I have the factory projectors and THOUGHT I got the high beams working as DRL's with some combination of settings early on when I first started tinkering with AlfaOBD...

I may / just be mistaken... ??? :)

If you can recall how you did it, I'd love to know! All of the tinkering I and another user here (I'm afraid I've forgotten his name and I'm too lazy to go back through the 4500 posts to find it) did could not get them working. Of course, there is also the possibility that it was a bug and Alexey did fix it since the last time I tried, which was at least a few months ago. I'll have to give it another try.

I'm not sure the factory projectors can work that way. Iirc they are bi-funcional so they use a solenoid and a motor to bring down a "shade" that obstructs the light in such a manner that it turns low to high beam.

If that's true, using high beam as DRL would be the same as having your high beams on at all times.
