Just out of curiosity what Does the vin write do in alpha ?
Would that put the truck back to stock ?

There are too many people who have done those mods that haven't had any trouble. Enable logging, take your time, write down the steps you take, and you'll be fine.

This. Biggest thing is make sure you have logging enabled, send yourself an initial log and one after you make your changes, use word or Google docs create 2 columns and put your initial and post logs side by side so it's easier to see what's changed and take your time making changes.

You can view everything in alphaobd without being connected to your truck. So if you want to explore do it "offline". And make sure you exit and close the app before connected to your truck on the odd chance that something could get changed automatically.

There are a lot of things that alphaobd can change and a lot we have no idea what it will do. Tread lightly and ask questions before making any undocumented changes. Someone may have a insight on what it can do or if it necessarily pertains to ram truck's.

Even the known working features can cause a problem sometimes. Alexey is working with a lot of different FCA features and models, and it's possible a change in one platform could effect another without his knowledge.

One last thing, something I just started doing. I couldn't directly find a way to download the apk files from Google play but I found a app that does. So the past three updates I've saved the previous apk files just incase something stopped working in a new update.

Good advice.

I am still worried that if I reflash the truck and then want to add DRL's, fog lights to stay on with High Beams for example with AlphaOBD that the same problem will happen again.

It also concerns me that we are unable to change destination county in ECU 3.

You could also see if you have any recalls that you have not gotten done and then ask them while they are in there could they update all of the modules. Then they would update everything and you might get it done for free.

I believe @Jimmy07 said it was for installing a new BCM.
I’m thinking you could write your VIN to a new bcm, but you would still have to manually configure it to your truck’s settings. I don’t think there’s any way the alfa can automatically configure it back to stock because that would probably need a connection to dealer connect.

If the clock Spring is new there is no need to set the steering angle. The procedure is quite simple. The new clock Spring will be locked in the center position there is only one Tabb that it can fit through on a steering wheel itself. The steering wheel shaft itself is marked so you can put it on exactly the same. It's a very simple procedure there's no need to set in the angles. I have installed several of them when converting trucks to heated steering wheels. If I'm not mistaken I think there's a video floating around on YouTube that shows a guy taking a clockspring apart and setting the angles to install. I have no idea what he is doing or why he does that but it is not necessary it gets a lot of people confused. Your clockspring will come with a yellow plastic tab sticking through it once you install it and put the steering wheel on just pull the tab and you're done. Also you would have to rotate the clock Spring 360゚ in order to install it incorrectly.

Thank you for the input but I would like to be able to show it is set where it was from the start so it can not come back on me. That is the real reason I want to see if you can see the angle, it's a CYA type thing.

Haha yeah that video has confused so many people. Alfa will tell you the steering angle when connected to the clock spring but I haven't tried to adjust it while connected. Something about wrecking a perfectly good clock spring doesn't sit well with me lol.

I understand what you saying but there is really no adjustment involved. You would have to install the steering wheel on a different spline in order to have it change . You cannot adjust the angle. The steering shaft has a section that has no splines and the steering wheel has the same pattern. You would have to install the steering wheel in the wrong spline(which you could clearly see) in order for it to be incorrect. There is no adjustment screw or finite measuring system.

Isn't the shaft keyed in some way to allow alignment? I really have no clue, but am curious.

That video is VERY confusing, but I think its a slightly different setup than our RAMs. IIRC the one he is working on in the video has a column shifter, which indicates possibly a 2500? and a different transmission too.

Isn't the shaft keyed in some way to allow alignment? I really have no clue, but am curious.

Edit: haha I should have read forward.

It's almost dummy proof on these trucks. Both wheel and shaft have alignment keys so as long as you're starting off straight you can't align it incorrectly. New clock springs are pinned so can't move, used ones are a little harder but still pretty easy once you've done it.
