I do remember one other guy trying to get the switch to work- @SRich2015. The highest year the alfa *actually* supports is 2017. That switch circuit (L26 on the C6/F BCM connector) didn’t exist on 2017, so there’s nothing there for the alfa to enable.

Yes, 2017 didn’t have the switch. My only option is to take it to the dealer and have the sales code added which I don’t want to do. It would wipe out all the changes I have done with the Alfa. Hope the developer will add the 18’ model year sometime soon but in the mean time I am just using without the switch, which has been fine so far.

Right now I’m waiting. I don’t like dealers touching my truck but...

I don’t know exactly how Alexey adds stuff, but I’d imagine the switch would be put in this section- CURaajo.jpg

If you look at your bcm system status, the bcm connectors and pin locations being set are identified- ozaPpAa.jpg

If he were to add the switch usage, it would read something like “CBC I/O Usage Configuration: Connector F Pin 26: Cargo Lamp Switch Signal Usage: Enabled”.

Of course, this would only be able to be enabled on a 2018 BCM because that circuit didn’t exist at that location on the previous years. This is really the only feature I can think of that was added to the 2018 BCM.

Thank you Jimmy, somehow I knew you would have the answer! I’m hoping he updates alpha for the 18 and 19, I would assume he is working on it as every software has to evolve or sales go stagnant! Thanks again.

Just for the hell of it, I emailed the developer to ask if he is working on or has plans for 2018 or 2019.
Also asked him if there was anything we could do to activate this switch.

Damn, I would think there is something in alpha other than what you’ve already done. I’ll try to scroll through and see if I find anything, can you post what you changed so far?

@1500ram12 and @Jimmy07 are pretty good with alpha, maybe they may have an idea.

I have the led bed lights from the factory, let me go through my logs and see what I can find

Only thing I could find that maybe related was this

I'll do some more digging on my dinner break.

@chris61530 this can be enabled with alpha, if you decide to give it a shot let us know if it worked.

CBC Features - Combined Rear Lighting Enable = yes

Unless I'm not understanding something, which is entirely possible. Pin 5 on the C1 is just for the factory bed light harness. I've wondered how the switch would work unless it is tied in with the cargo lamp switch somehow. I wouldn't mind adding the factory switch as well.

That should be enabled on every Ram already.

In the instructions it said that there may be a wire already in pin 5, then to splice in the wire for the kit. It didn't say if there was an existing wire if you had to have the sales code added.

That was the only feature I saw that looked like it may relate to the bed lighting. It's possible that the bed lights aren't a feature in alphaobd yet

The bed lighting feature itself can be enabled using alfa, as it was introduced in 2016. It’s the separate switch in the bed that was introduced in 2018 that can’t be enabled.
Here’s the switch usage that would need to be enabled in CBC I/O Usage Configuration on a 2018 BCM- 3j5sfLc.jpg

Here’s a 2017 BCM. Note the missing circuit, hence the reason alfa can’t enable it, since it only supports up to 2017- TKaWFCL.jpg

I had to add truck bed lighting feature for my bed lights to work and I did splice the wire to my existing pin 5 location.

I only quickly looked over an exterior wiring diagram (alldatadiy so far only goes up to 2017 for the 2500) and didn't see anything for bed lighting) but it seems like if you found where pin 26 terminated you could add it to a 2017 and possibly enable the switch. Or tap into a power supply to use the switch

@Jimmy07 So then the only way would be to tie into the cargo lamp switch

You'd just have to be careful not to leave the switch on by accident by tapping into a 12v source. Also, what would happen if you had the switch on and then accidentally hit your fob or someone opened one of the doors?

I agree. You would have to tie into a acc 12v supply. My bed lights only stay on for a short time, not sure if that changes if the key is in the acc position. Or as @Jimmy07 posted, try and find out where pin 26 leads to (if that's the only difference between 17-18) and add that then you should be able to install as the instructions say and enable it through alphaobd.

Did a little digging and found these. Kinda supports what we have found out already but the diagrams might help a little
