Belt squeal?

I've had what sounds like a progressively worsening belt squeal or squeaking sound that doesn't go away, any idea what it is?

Probably the belt or something it turns going bad. Pop the belt off and start it for a second. If the noise is still there, its something else.

Use Spray-on Belt Dressing to diagnose if it the belt or something else. If it repairs the sound, just change the belt, if it has no effect on the noise it is something bigger. Dressing is only a temp fix, so even if it helps the squeak will return.

I just went through a hell of a headache to get this issue fixed on my truck. It ended up being the water pump. After 5 visits to the dealership they finally replaced it and the squeal was gone. The water pump was on back order and the tech told me it is a common issue on our trucks. They replaced the belt, belt tensioner and added an additive before finally replacing the water pump. Take it in and good luck.

that sounds terrible. is the 5 trips the common way to diagnose that problem?

Apparently chrysler has a step by step procedure............fail imo
