Does anyone know the actual difference between the airflow CFM of the standard 5.7L air filter and the 6.4L / 3.0L EcoDiesel air filter? I can't seem to find this info anywhere. Thanks for any help you can provide.

If I still had my original 5.7 filter, I could help. The filter information was printed on my original 2016 air filter - mopar replacement does not have the specs printed on it.

I don't have the original one but I have a replacement Hemi and the 6.4 EcoD Mopar filters. They have some flow info printed on one side...

Cool, my replacement mopar filter didn't have any writing on that I saw.
I would not have imagined that the Eco D would have less dust capacity than the shallower filter - hmmm.
I am assuming (maybe incorrectly) that the5.7 hemi is cubic meters/minute and the 6.4 is measured in gallon/second????
If so 14.16 m3/min = 62.345 g/s at a less efficiency than the 6.4 filter but am unable to see pressure loss info on the end of the 5.7 filter

Good question! Gas mileage unchanged; intake noise maybe slightly louder, but no perceivable difference in power.

Bottom line: No difference observed. Mentally, I am happy I have it just because it should flow more, but functionally, no difference at all.
Good to know. I was thinking about doing this mod but it doesn't seem like there is any real upside.

I have done the airbox switch and recently put a different muffler on. I plan on resetting computer tonight. I have drove a week with exhaust and not reset the computer. Just curious if anyone else has reset the computer and what difference if any was noticed.

I know when you put an actual CAI on most of them recommend disconnecting the battery to reset everything so it definitely couldn't hurt...

Any additional feedback from members that have done this mod? Like would you do it again or just stay stock? Seems like a good mod. Thanks to the OP for posting this info.

I have don it, does it give some extra? I don not know.

Made some more mods (LT Headers cats removed Resonators removed Magnaflow exhaust bigger TB E Fan and 8 hours tweaking the ECU) and now we have this Dynosheet :

Had this mod for like 8 months now. I'm going to say, if your engine is 100% stock (me, except for a Magnaflow), it doesn't do much for you. For a completely stock engine, the stock box provides enough air flow. Now if you have headers, a tuner and a few other goodies, then yes, I could see it be beneficial.

Few potential issues...anyone chime in if you know the answers...

1. I looked up this part number, and cross-checked it on a 2015, since that is what my 1500 5.7l is. The part number given here matches for a 1500 Ecodiesel up to 1-14-15. Different part number, and $10 more, for a build date 1-15-15 and later. (68292879AA)

2. The pictures show the ecodiesel box is a little smaller than the 5.7 box. Any fitment issues?

3. I'm ordering from MyMoparParts.com, and they are asking for a VIN. Anyone had a dealer that wouldn't ship without a matching ecodiesel VIN? It's the weekend, so I'm waiting for a response on Monday. Hopefully they'll ship without any worry.

I have the VARARAM on my truck right now, but don't like it because when I take the filter off, there is dust on the plastic housing, and I'm sure some is getting in the engine, so it's coming off. I think it's funny how we all get excited about a CAI, which stands for Cold Air Induction. All of our trucks have that LOL. It gets air from the fender, and not hot air from the engine. So many aftermarket "CAI's" are actually NOT true CAI's because they don't totally isolate the hot air from the engine compartment. The VARARAM is one of the few that does, but I don't like the dust behind the filter.

I was just going to put the OEM box back on, but I like this mod, so I'm going to try it.

Aftermarket "CAI's" should be called Hi-Flow intakes. But even then, they aren't needed unless a lot of other mods are done to require more air. I plan on doing a mild cam and new lifters. I already have long tube headers, larger TB, and a tuner, and don't think I really need any more air than what this ecodiesel mod will provide.

Thanks for the info!

Yeah very carefully lol. They come out a lot harder than they go in the new box. You have to pry them pretty hard to get them out....

Ok. I've broken two, so I'm just going to break the other two (plastic on the housing).

Any trick to get them on the new one? Any special way to pry it? Or did a certain tool work best?

Let me take a look at mine. I ordered extra clips so I should be able to get a pic....

Grabbed my 5.7 box, you want to position it like I have it in the pic and pull up. It should just snap into the groove on the box....75848d1407d7a0906ac54387a09e7e22.jpg
