BT catch can installed with pics!

I guess Im wondering if Dodge hasnt addressed it, what is the overall benefit of installing one of these? Is it that big of a deal?

Nearly any engine can benefit from a catch can. Piston engines produce pressure in the crankcase (basically the lower half if you picture from the crankshaft down) as the pistons pump up and down. If that pressure were to build it can reduce ring seal, hence the purpose of the ventilation system. Because of emissions reasons, however, that pressure cannot be vented to the atmosphere, so the manufacturers have to route it into the intake manifold so that it can be burned in the combustion chamber. The gasses from the crankcase carry emulsified oil that coats the intake runners (producing that sludge you see when you remove the manifold on a high-mileage engine), and degrades the octane of the atomized fuel entering the combustion chamber. In other words, it's killing the octane rating on that big tank of premium you just paid for. The vehicle's ECU will protect the engine by reducing timing, but performance suffers, and this is even with a stock tune. The ECU reduces timing any time it sees detonation, and it can sometimes be excessive.

I am new as well and honestly, I am not looking to modify my truck that much from stock.

That being said, I read a bunch of threads about these, looked at the photos and decided I wanted to add one to my truck just to keep the gunk out of the intake and throttle body.

My truck is sitting right at 15K. I added the Catch Can at around 14K.
(Wish I had written the mileage down)

First couple of days driving around town, my can collected this:

I have looked into the throttle body and while it is not gunked up, I can see some build-up.
What the Can collects is not all oil, it is much darker than the oil on my dipstick.

I cannot find any indication that the gunk the Catch Can is collecting is beneficial to the engine in any way.
So, I figure for ~$120.00 it was worth it to me.

This is at about 1,000mi, 500mi or so at highway speeds 65mph+

ETA: and it took me like 15mins to install.

My truck only has 500 miles on it. My can just arrived today. Have to wait until the weekend to install it though. Didn't think it would be too much of a problem to install, and your write up confirms it. Thanks.

I've seen some folks use cans from Lowes or Home Depot. Any issue with those? I was thinking they are made from plastic and that would be an issue.

I'm using a Kobalt Air/water separator in mine and so far it's been fine. Just had to JB Weld the little fitting on the bottom so the oil didn't leak out.
