Sorry, I wasnt very clear. I meant tap into the "park light" feed at the front left headlight. Not the actually headlight power feed. Just made it easier, cause I knew for sure it was the correct wire. Hope you get it all figures out. Post pics!

Thanks.... hmmm... that is screwed up! Well, wiring into the headlight would make them only come on when the headlights were on, instead of with the parking lights as they should. I guess I could do the same with a parking light, but that is a l-o-n-g way to go with a couple of wires including having to fish thru the firewall... when I have them all right there under the dash.

Somebody on the diesel forum just did his, same truck, he pointed me in the right direction. Going out now to see if I can find it.

oh, ok gotcha. So I just looked and can't even figure out how to get the headlight package off/open? Normally there are bolts just inside under the hood, but I don't see anything. I'll have to search on here for instructions for that. BUT, even when I get it off, and wire into the parking light, how the heck am I going to get thru the firewall on this truck? I just eyeballed that and from the inside under the dash it looks like a piece of cake, but I don't see how I can reach it from the outside! YIKES!

Well, the good news is I found it! I found the white/brown wire on the top left connector on the "BCM module" shown in the instructions. The really BAD news is, I can't get within 12" of that connector in any way shape or form. There is only about 3/4" of space to reach it up in the dash way up behind everything. In particular there is a black box with fins on it that looks like it might be an amp or something for the sound system. That box is dead smack in the way of reaching up in there to get to the connector/wire we need. Worse, I can't get the black box out of the way because it is bolted on with 3 bolts, and one of them is blocked by a bulkhead, so you can't get to that screw to move the box out of the way. I hope to hell I never have any issues with that "BCM" module, whatever it is, cause it would be close to impossible to ever do anything with it.

So for now, it looks like I have "daytime" clearance lights only, cause I don't know how the hell I'm going to get these wired in.

Hmmm, well I went through the firewall inside behind the e brake, and on the engine side of the firewall there was a little rubber nub I had to snip to route the wire through. You don't happen to have a 2500 do you? There is an accessory plug in the A pillar, but you would have found that by now...whats wrong with splicing in an extra 12" of wire to make your life easier?

I have a 1500. I see 2 places to easily get thru the firewall from the inside, the trouble is I can't get to either of those places from the engine compartment, it's pretty deep down in there. I didn't check from down below (underneath the truck), I'll check that now.

But I'm not sure what you mean about adding 12" of wire? I'd add 12 feet of wire, I have no problem with that. But I can't reach the wire I need to connect it to. I can't reach the connector it is plugged into, or the harness it is in. It is way up in deep up in the dash, with stuff in front of it, so I can't reach it. A 5 year olds arm could not reach it either, there is only 1/2" to 3/4" of space to reach up into it. I'd post a pic, but it's so tight I couldn't even really get a pic of it...

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about. I can see the connector (better than in the pic), but there is no way to reach up in there to get at it. The yellow lines shows how much space is between the black module (amp?) and the e-brake lever, about 1" wide. So you can reach in there. And you can't move the "amp" because one of it's screws is up against a bulkhead with 1/4" clearance, so it's not possible to get even a right angle screw driver on it.

I do see the bottom of the speaker is "kinda" close to the connector though, I'm wondering if I can get to it from above, but I doubt it. How does that speaker come out?

Haha, ok I gotcha! I misunderstood the part about not being able to reach the connecting point. I thought the wire was too short. Here's a shot of where I came through the fire wall in my engine bay. I then routed that wire down to my headlight and tapped the park light feed. First pick is inside, second is engine bay. Loom comes through firewall about 10" below windsheild, was pretty accessible on mine.

Well, from your picture it looks like a lot more work to tap @ the BCM. Like a lot more, lol. If it were me, I would run wire to passenger headlight and call it good. If I have a chance I'll snap a pic of where I tied in. Was easiest for me to access from underneath between wheel well liner and bumper.

Solid, I have that same point on the inside, easy. But I can't get to the other side, lots of stuff in the way there. Can't even see it, forget reach it. Just tried that, and tried from below, no go.

What I did just find, is I can reach up and unplug and pull down/access the plug/wires on the back of the headlights selector knob, and it has a white wire with brown stripe. Soooooo, does anyone know if that carries the full voltage (12v)? OR, is it just going to have 5v or something and work a relay that goes to the actual lights? If it does have the full voltage, I can tap off it there! oh, PLEASE, somebody tell me it's the same wire with 12v when park lights are on!

What if you pop off the cover that is on the left side of the dash/console that meets up to the door (hope that makes sense)? I know people have removed that to tap into wires for bed lights and such. I believe they've talked about the same color of wire. Basically, if you're looking at the dash, in your seat, the far left flat section that meets the door, should just pop out. Maybe you can get to it from there (the side of the dash).

Here is a super simple way to route wire from through the firewall. I used this way and worked beautifully. Pulled it, drilled and install grommet and reinstalled it.

Meanwhile I spent 2 hours yesterday in there with a volt meter and a wire lead attached to try and test all the wires that looked like they went into the engine room to try and find it (turning the park lights on and off...). I was not able to find it anywhere that I can reach. What a PITA!

FYI, the selector knob does not carry the full 12v from what I see. So that is out.

I think that is where most of these guys that add LED's under the truck plug in for power and signal.

Well, that didn't work. That side plate pops off very easy, just move the rubber out of the way. But the only thing you can get to in there is the small bundle of wires that goes up the A piler (sunroof, rear window control, upper console stuff....) , which doesn't help me.

So then I go out and look for the wire at both headlights, I can't find them!!! I looked from above, from below, from the sides.... from the tire well, NOTHING. I can't figure out for the life of me how you can even change a light on the thing?? So I look in the manual "how to change a bulb", and low and behold it is NOT in the manual either! They tell you what bulbs to use, but not how to open any of the lenses. That is the first vehicle in my 50 years, that did not instruct you on how to change the lights. WTF??

So you guys that said, you can find it from the passenger side under the bumper, can any of you provide more detail on this? I'm not a complete idiot, but this sure is making me feel like one! I don't even see where wires go into the back of the headlights on the passenger side?? There seems to be no wires entering that area? I can see a bundle going into the back of the drivers side headlight, but I can't get anywhere near it, that bundle/connector is deep in there and can't be reached.

I'm almost ready to give up, and just hardwire it to +12v and add a dang switch for them! krykeee!!!

The headlights are a bit of a pain to get to. Most people remove the grill to change them... Just takes a couple of minutes. There is a trap door in the fender well that opens up to get to the back of the headlights. Might try that.
