Ok, finally had some time to install lights. Was a very interesting project. Took me about 2 nights. First night to lay every thing out and drill, second night to wire. Turned out perfect! Plan on doin a little write up here shortly on some things I came across during install. Even remebered to snap some pics during the process.

Always liked and had the clearance lights on my older trucks. They look good on yours.

Anyone know if having the factory sunroof would cause problems with the install?

Looks great, I really want to do this to mine, did you use the factory kit?.
I have read some say that the drill spots are marked under the headliner, were yours?

I’m more concerned about taking all the headliner/interior out than drilling. I’m worried about being able to reinstall it without it sagging and making noises. I look forward to seeing your write up because I sure would like to do this.

I purchased the factory mopar kit 82211190AB clear lens off ebay for $86. Kit came complete with wire harness, template, hardware, incandescent orange 194 bulbs, and instructions. Insttuctions are kinda vague, but you get the picture. I layed stencil on top of truck and got it cenetered. It took about 45 min to get all lined up and even . The 3 middle lights are aprox 3.5 in from windshield and the outer 2 are about 5.5 inches off windshield. 3.5" from outer lights to door jam. Secured with painters tape. Measured 5 more times and began center punching each point, 15 in all. I then took a 3/32 bit and drilled pilot holes. I tried dipping the bit in some grease to catch the metal burs, this did not work. It just slung it off and made a mess. Word of caution. THERE WILL BE METAL EVERYWHERE! Have a vacuum handy. I then removed the template after drilling all pilot holes. Put painters tape back over holes and continued drilling. 1/4" bit for the 10 holes to fasten lights to cab, and 7/8 for center hole. I only had a 3/4 step bit and it was a PITA to get the plugs up through those holes. Wasnt about to drop $40 on new step bit though. Deburred holes and painted bare metal with primer. Night one done.

The layout is pretty straight forward, nothing complicated. Just measure over and over til you're content. A few notes on working on roof and being able to reach everything. I used a 2 foot step ladder next to truck with door open. Half stood on ladder, half on fron seat to reach the outer spots. For the center light, and for a lot of the drilling and work. I actually climbed on to the cowel? between the windsheild and the hood. Kinda half squatted and layed against windsheild. Not a comfortable spot by any means, but worked for me. I'm about 5'9, 165#'s. Held me fine. One more thing, I drilled all of the holes without dropping the headliner. On to night 2....

Nice job, SS. I know the GoRecon one is $150 but I don't know if it comes with a template. I am looking to do the smoked lenses with high intensity clear bulbs.

Of this entire project I was more leary about dropping the headliner than drilling holes in my roof. So, I only went as far as I deemed needed. I removed both front A pillars, upper center console, and visors. A pillars are a 10mm socket, visors are like 8mm and visor catch is a small torx. I was able to get enough play in heafliner to do all the work without removing the B pillars. It would have made things easier by dropping it more, but I'm used to working in tight olaces with my hands and I didnt want to deal with it. So, routed the wires up through the center console hole, and fished them up through roof holes. This was where the 7/8 step bit would have made things easier. The light sockets are hard molded rubber, and not very pliable. Took some coaxing but got the sockets up and through. Ran power down drivers side A pillar. I routed a piece of 16 ga wire through my fire wall into engine bay for power. The instructions state to get power from pin 7 on TIPM, wht wire with green tracer. I located wire and tapped. That particular wire is the turn signal feed. Save yourself the time and locate the correct wire at the headlamp. It also happens to be a wht wire with green tracer. I thought since my instructions were 2013 rev. they would have the correct wiring. There are lots of other threads reffering to the wrong wiring instructions from mopar. Use a volt meter and check the plug at the headlamp, and save yourself some time! Vacuumed out headliner and put everything back together. Fun project. Feel free to ask any questions. Sun roof would only make install easier in my opinion. Waaay easier, lol. But no, it shouldn't cause any problems.

Excellent write up! Truck looks real sharp.

Currently deciding between installing the OEM Clear+Amber lights or the Recon Smoked+White LED on my red and silver two tone Laramie. I already bought the Recons but am thinking the Clear OEM would look better

Thanks! I read a lot of bad reviews on the recon cab lights. A lot of guys have had them fail. You have to change the entire light assembly if any of the leds go out. The bulbs are replaceable in the mopar. So you have the option to change bulb color wht/amber, and lenses smoked/clear. I liked that, and those are the reasons I opted for the OEM ones.

So that gave you enough room to stick your arm under headliner to push thru bulb sockets?
Were you able to remove the metal shavings first?

Yes, was able to get my hand up in the cavity to do the work. Again, it was tight and somewhat difficult, lol, but totally doable. I kinda vacuumed as I went, and then did a final before I buttoned everything up. I can't emphasis enough the amount of metal shavings. It was everywhere, inside and out. I didnt want to mess the with the headliner any more than absolutely neccessary.

Thought this was relevant... I did NOT use any rtv on any of the holes. I know some people say spread that **** everywhere. I wanted to see how the factory seals hold up. They have a double ridge with a small gap between on the rubber pad. I think it would be pretty hard for water to get past that. IF they start leaking at any point, I will then add sealant. Just washed the truck and hosed the **** out of them, so far so good.

Solid state, when you state "I brought it up the center console....", what center console are you referring to?
