I'm not sure why you guys are so concerened with the "shavings". Use a hole saw type bit and there really aren't many shavings, and if you leave a few shavings in the headliner, who cares, there's nothing up there to worry about....

S0CAL...thanks, I want to do this mod but I want to do it the easiest way. I really don’t want to remove the B pillar seat belts and all that if I don’t have too. All I need to do is drop the liner enough to stick the bulb socket thru the holes then fish the wiring down the A pillar.

That will work perfect. Homedepot has them in sets, $29 for 6 or 8 different sizes.....

Maybe this changed after 2010, but I completely took mine down, no velcro anywhere. @JB1, this is not going to sag on you, the headliner is rigid foam, and is secured by the visors, A pilars (B and C for that matter) and the door seals. That badboy won't sag. BUT... while you are up there, consider taping down the cabling. When I took mine down, the console harness and associated wiring was making a "scratching noise" so I taped it. No more problems.

I have a DIY video on headliner removal in 4thGen Forums if interested (insert shameless plug).

I am tempted to get back up there and do these cab lights (May do the smoked recon white ones).

If you do let me know. I have a set of brand new Recon smoked with white LEDs. Decided to go OEM clear with amber for my red two-tone truck.

Very true, I wired mine to the headlights but I have HIDs on mine so the resistors may be helping my cause as well

Where is the middle light located in relation to the overhead console?

JB1, a lot of the questions you're asking regarding the headliner, upper console, etc I answered pages back. It literally takes 15 min or less to pull the upper console, visors and A pillars. The door seals/rubbers 10 sec. Have a look for yourself. Its all pretty clear and easy. However to directly answer your question, yes the center bulb socket would be right there in the console hole along with some wiring. Again for the record, you have plenty of room just removing the things I mentioned above. You DO NOT have to pull the seat belts and B pillars. Jusr tryin to help....

Here are some pictures of what can happen when the dealer installed your cab lights and let the shavings go down in the gap between the roof and the windshield. Had no idea what was causing this and there was a large metal shaving that was caught that wouldn't pull out as if it was between the windshield And the cab. They pulled the windshield out to discover it was only metal shavings from the cablight installation.

Wow thanks for the pics, I’m definitely going to put plastic across mine and tape up to the roof in front to catch the shavings. I’m going to do all I can to catch them so I don’t even need to vacuum at all.

They pulled the windshield out to discover it was only metal shavings from the cablight installation.

I don't even understand how that makes any sense. You don't install these or cut anywhere near where your pictures are.... ? The shaving simply fall straight down, either onto the head liner which is haning down loosly 6 or 8" below the roof, or onto your seats and floor if you completely remove the headliner. In either case, just vacuum it up, done.

They drilled the holes from the top of the roof and when you drill holes a lot of the material ends up around the hole on the side where you started drilling, it can't all fall straight down through the hole. Then you wipe or blow them off the roof down toward the windshield and they collect in the gap between the cab and the windshield. When they get wet they start to rust and that is what it looks like. No conspiracy, that was the only place the shavings could have come from. I'm sure if you cared about what you were doing and cleaned them up or ran a shop vac next to the bit while drilling that would not be an issue. BTW, the rust was just residue on the surface of the paint with the exception of the actual chips that were in there and wiped off with a little rubbing compound.
