I love my truck but haaaaaate the fact that when using “Auto” climate control I’m forced to have the air come from vent zones selected by the system. I like to choose where the air comes from and (on other cars I’ve owned) often use the dash AND foot area. Why would any auto manufacturer force drivers to have ALL the air come from a single area (upper dash, dash, floor). This situation blows!

Anyone have a fix?

Idk bout a fix. But the system does this for the fastest possible temperature changes. My wife's trailhawk does the exact same thing. Once it gets to the selected temp the fan will slow itself down/off.

I posted about this recently as well. It feels like my truck (with HVAC on Auto) uses the lower windshield exit too much, versus the floor exit.

Heat rises, cold falls.....every other vehicle Ive owned with auto HVAC uses the floor in the winter and upper dash/lower windshield outlets in the summer.

There is *some* floor output even with the windshield outlet blaring away, but I feel like more should be directed to the floor once the truck is warmed up a bit.

Hogwash. Forcing all of the air through some vents versus others won’t change the cabin temp any quicker. Volume and temp of air coming from vents determine how fast the temp changes.

Purchased new 2012 Journey for my wife, daughter has it at college now. It has the same climate control system as both my 2017 and 2019 Lone Stars. On the occasional times I would drive the Journey when it was my wife’s, other than temp adjustments for MY side, I was forbidden to mess with the climate controls. (I’m not a genius but I am smart enough to know when to do, or not do, as I’m told). I was a blow all the A/C in my face and split the heat, glass to feet guy. It took time, but as my wife was quick to do with her Journey, I have accepted the way the system works. Now I don’t even think about where the air flow is coming from and I rarely touch the controls in my truck other than temp adjustments.

Depending on the requested temperature vs the temperature in the cab will determine where the air comes out in Auto. If the system needs to heat more air comes out of the floor, when cooling more is directed out of the panel vents. The system does seem to keep some air going up the defrost but this is done to help combat windshield fogging, probably inspired by the humidity sensor on the windshield.
In some ways it would be nice to select where the air comes out but that some ways that negates automatic operation. You can manually change where the air comes out, but expect less than full Auto operation.
My biggest grip about Auto mode is the fan speed slows too much.

Tradesman trucks with three knobs are still the best. Intuitive and simple.

Nothing's ever been made so simple some a-hole couldn't make it needlessly more complicated.

I have to whole heartedly agree with this, come on, how spoiled/lazy are we going to become, too lazy to turn knobs. Maybe Uconnects new feature will be climate control by thought. Just think of a temperature and voila,

I know i know. Not hating, im just glad i have a/c and heat. Heated steering wheels. I well never, understand that one, like ever.

This X1000. I've never understood why the manufacturers of all vehicles have complicated the hell out of HVAC. Three knobs.... how hot?, how fast? where? Yes, it really is that simple.

Having to use my touchscreen to change the location of output is absolutely maddening. Same with pushing buttons to change the temp.

If they want to make it more upmarket they could just make the knobs out of titanium or something. Over the years I've tried to own better things, rather than more things and almost universally the quality of "better" comes in the form of materials grade and engineering grade - not loading something down with bogus features.

The best flashlight for example is click on, click off. The cheap trash flashlights necessitate tapping through ten different blink and brightness levels to turn them on and off. I don't buy that kind.

Come to state that drops below freezing and you'll understand and love a heated steering wheel.

Tou know i often dont think about region some of you live and your right. Probably has a lot to do with it. Thanks for that one

It's true, I've only had my heated seats/wheel since April and it's been a mild winter, so around 8 degrees was the coldest we've had so far. I never thought I'd care for them much either but it's a lot nicer than ice cold wheel and seats, and I'm sure once we hit some negative temps it'll be even more helpful. Love the ventilated seats for summer too, and a cooled wheel would be awesome sometimes during the summer as well if that were possible.

Alot of its my age just wasnt raised with all that so not used to it is it nice of course. Just not willing to trade my simplicity for tech. Or that much tech. I guess im used to just getting by with minimal things. But coldest ive ever experienced is 12f. So i know nothing of below 0 weather. Probably a game changer.

I have a Laramie, and I like the Auto setting, really all I do is vary the heat between 68 in summer and 70 in winter. On cold mornings (below 37) it automatically warms the steering wheel and turns on the seat heaters. Occasionally I have to turn on the rear window defroster.

I had a Mercedes C class - it was the best "auto" setting I have ever experienced and I would say my Ram is right on par. Wife has a BMW and the entire HVAC system is really difficult to use - even on Auto.

I do also have the knobs and can manually set as desired as well.

I like the simple as well, I have a 66 buick that is about as simple as it gets and I love it for being that way. I balance it out with the truck though, difference being that this truck will be gone in two years whereas I hope to be buried in my car when I die. If I was going to keep a truck longer term I wouldn't get such a fancy one, but for the amount of time I keep them I do enjoy experiencing some of the luxuries.

As for the auto climate control, never desired it or missed having it on my first two regular cab rams (2011/2013) but I have been enjoying it on my 17. Seems to work very good and I almost never have to pull up the climate control screen for any adjustments I need to make. Have had the traditional 3 knob style on my 2011, the non auto climate control but not traditional 3 knob on my 2013, and now the dual zone auto on the 17 and I don't have any complaints on any of them.
