K&N is claiming an HP and torque gain as a result of their Cold Air Intake parts. The RHO has an OEM version that does not produce any gain. I believe they said it moves the HP/Torque down lower on the RPM curve. Do any of you have this installed? Does it work? Is there a danger adding too much HP/Torque? See the claim below.

Read the small print at the bottom "Results will vary", what that means is,not a chance in hell will you get the same results as they claim, lol

Does it work?
The Hurricane engine uses forced induction, there's even a less chance of real world horsepower gains in the double digits. Even from the aspect of the K&N being a CAI as the turbos have an air to water intercooler, so any cold air is heated as it's compressed then cooled back down by the intercooler.

I'd like to see real world proof--either a before and after timing slip or a draggy comparison of before and after. 41 hp increase is a lot for a CAI.
I'm thinking someone in their advertising department went off the rails a little.

You bring up a very good point!

The only producer of air intake systems that does not tout numbers whatsoever, that I'm aware of is Legmaker Intakes.

Instead, they take them to the track to prove their products work by doing real world 1/4-mile racing and letting the numbers speak for themselves.

Not advertising for Legmaker at all, but they are some dang nice intakes that are custom made to order for only MOPAR applications. Functional artwork.

Matt Fikac/Moes has done some testing, and the only one that showed any gains in times on the 4th Gens was the Vararam, but it's not really an intake i'd run year round in Canada. There's pics of them drifted full of snow, and when my buddy put one on his truck during a chinook ,and then he roared out to show it off,by the time he got to my place,it had gathered up enough wet slushy snow, the filter was soaked and wasn't sealing anymore.I ended up driving him back to the city where we picked up his original airbox and threw it back on.He didn't keep it very long,as he had issues with keeping the lid sealed to the filter, the plastic they're made from isn't really heavy enough to make a good filter assembly that doesn't allow dust by the filters edges

I've read here in our Forum how the Vararam's can let water in and crap out, and have more potential to get dusted, too. Was never personally a fan of those intakes.

K&N has been bald faced lying in their advertisements for decades. They have been caught at it many times and that is why they have added the lawyer words, results may vary, to get out of jail free. What they should be held accountable to is to provide the proof of even the one unit they tested that is producing 40 HP more by JUST adding the cold air intake. I would bet large dollars they can't produce the proof.

This has been talked about endlessly on this forum.

These engines are computer controlled. The air is metered. It's only going to allow so much air in regardless of what intake is installed. You are not getting any performance increase without a tune.
^^^ THIS ^^^
You'll gain some sound and eye candy under the hood, which some people like. As far as significant power gains from just an intake, no.

We're not in the 90's anymore, modern engines are designed to produce the maximum reliable level of power while keeping NVH at acceptable levels. That stock airbox is engineered to flow as much air as the engine needs in stock form.
