I have been watching temps last few days. I used a laser thermometer and some differences...
Gauge in truck reads 230, thermostat housing 209 & return housing 199. Trans temp in truck 177, outer trans line 169, inner 161. I ran some errands and these are the temps when I got back. Truck empty, back roads 45-50 mph, AC on. One thing, fan comes on at 230. Happened twice 230. This pic is right after fan kicked on. If I have a 203 thermostat, why doesn't the fan kick around 210-215? Can I adjust fan to come on sooner? Also, oil pressure little low, Next change may mix 5w20 & 10w30.

Looks normal to me. Ya can change out to lower thermostate and a new pcm and tuner. But how much do you want to spend on temps. Id leave it unless your looking at doin performance mods

I guess I am just surprised. I have never had a vehicle run this hot. I had a F350 7.3 years ago and the only times I would see 230 is if loaded and pulling a hill. Nick

Yeah that oil pressure would concern me....it should be at least 28-29 psi at hot idle.

Some engines do idle at that low pressure, my big truck (Detroit DD13 engine) idles warm at about that pressure... but I don't believe that is within spec for the Hemi engines.

Maybe if you correct the oil pressure with a tune, as in just tune idle up maybe psi will follow, or new oil pump those temps would come down. I'm not sure what else it could be. With the cam issues we have with low idle, I would say low psi is just as bad. Someone with more knowledge then me needs to find out that psi. Those temps don't bother me, but with low psi I would worry about life of the cam. If you wanna try something, take psi readings and various rpm's up to 3g's, like take the psi reading at 1,000 rpm, 2,000 rpm. and 3,000 rpm.

I live in Florida and I've never seen coolant temps that high and oil pressure that low

Most likely the pressure sensor is bad. I haven't seen any issues with bad oil pumps in the pentastars, but then I haven't searched it.

My warm idle oil psi was in the 50's.

I bought the truck in 10/19 at a Ram dealer. They stated oil changed at that time. I am going to drive it Wednesday and will report oil pressure 1K, 2K, & 3K rpm. While 16 psi is ok by what I have been reading, I believe the light comes on at 5. I consider 16 low in this case because 52k miles, my diesel has 285k and when hot, 12-13 psi. I can live with oil pressure, I don't have a clue what oil they put in it. I am going to change it and 3 qts. 5/20 & 3 qts. 10/30. What I am really considering is a 194 thermostat and triggering the fan to come on at 205 or so. Nick

Drove the truck to work this morning. 0530, 73 degrees outside.
Coolant 82
Trans 78
Oil Temp 78
Oil Press 88
This is right after start up.
Parked at work oil pressure idle 27. Coolant 185.
1K rpm oil 35 psi coolant 201
2K rpm oil 40 psi coolant 203.
This is no a/c, no sun, no traffic.
I will record on trip home. Traffic, 90+ degrees. Nick

Chrysler ECM protocol monitors the rate and temp which the engine coolant reaches operating temperature for efficient stoic control of the fuel management system. You can set a code for the t-stat, and I've seen phantom (false) P0420 & P0430 Catalyst codes due to either an incorrect or defective thermostat! Just tryin' to help! ;)

As far as you comparing diesel oil pressure to gas.... 2 different worlds. Mixing and brewing oil weights is a poor idea. 16 PSI, although seemingly low, poses ZERO longevity issues to your Ram. VOLUME of oil past a point per unit of time is what you need to concern yourself with... and there's not a thing you can accomplish about that without major and expensive mods.

Thank-you. I have been reading up. I am good until 5 psi. I have been driving it for a few days. Oil hasn't dropped less than 27 at idle. Coolant below 215, oil temp 210. I'll keep an eye on it. Nick
