I have seen some stories about problems with crank and/or cam position sensors. My 98 1500 5.2, 2 wd, automatic is coming up on 210,000 miles and is running good. The heads were removed and checked (had a coolant leak) and replaced with all new gaskets, plugs and ign wires and dist cap and rotor, the water pump, alternator and belt were also replaced recently. Should I replace the 2 sensors as PM at this miles or possibly buy ones to have on hand when needed? Are there any other items I should change as a precaution or keep on hand? The truck is in very good condition and I want to keep it. Thanks for your help and ideas. Art

The cam sensor or coil pickup in the distributor is 15 dollars and when it feels like going out the motor dies right on the spot. That's probably one to have on hand

My camshaft sensor died on the freeway... and engine just stops! But after it was replaced it fixed a long standing problem I was having for YEARS of the engine “stumbling”...would chug a few times like it was going to die but would pick back up. It didn’t throw any codes so the shop didn’t suspect the sensor.

Humm my Durango 5.9 started doing that stumbling but not quite dying on the cost while idling no codes. Maybe I should throw the spare in hopefully it clears up.

I should say that it might have been the crankshaft sensor, too. I had both replaced at that service.
