Customize Projector Headlights

If you can afford it, I would recommend buying aftermarket replicas and opening them up. A LOT easier than dealing with the permaseal and you still have usable headlights as you build your other ones. Besides opening them up, pretty easy process honestly.

Quad Bi-LED projectors with diode dynamics switchbacks and clear reflectors.

I hear you with the aftermarket set..my question is: will the super pricey GTR HID kit I bought for my factory headlights work in the aftermarket projectors?

If you do it, you have to take pics and or video and post the process. Taking them apart would be good!

Thats what I'm suck on right now lol. As of now everything is still clear.

Debating whether I want to tint them, color match the side marker white and leave the DRL clear, or keep them both clear.

All clear would look good with the white. I’m Mr. Black on this trick so I need mine smoked.
I can’t have the amber corners anymore but the the only place that has clear is klearz.com and I’m looking at $300 for DRL and corners.
I can’t justify it. I might just tint my stock ones.

Ya just tried this 3 times on the front emblem again... nada... Last time I let it sit for 3 hours.

Chrome on the headlights is different. Comes right off with oven cleaner. Grill and emblems easy off doesnt work. Best bet would be to scuff heavily, and epoxy primer before paint

I ordered some dark smoked clear side markers from Klearz. I guess that means I will eventually be doing this project!

I’m going to lightly tint the DRL’s myself as the klearz set seems a little steep.
I’m trying to decide if I want to go all black on the projector shroud or use a touch of body colour.
Also thinking I might “black chrome” the high beam reflectors. I have powerful hid’s on the low beams so I don’t really ever use the high beams.

If anyone who has done this would like to talk some sense into me, please do!

I've wanted to do this forever, I'm just not sure how to get the paint to really work on the chrome bezel. Otherwise I would have opened them by now. I wish they just sold black bezels we could buy for these.

Easy Off Oven Cleaner... I bought mine at Giant food stores (grocery store on east coast) for like $2. When you spray the chrome bezels you can literally watch the chrome finish drip off as your spraying the oven cleaner onto the bezels.

It is perfectly smooth flat matte black underneath the chrome. I have pictures of the process because I run a custom headlight business so lemme get some photos of the process and I’ll upload them for you to see.

You can see the easy off oven cleaner can in the first 2 photos.

The pictures where the chrome bezels and the reflector bowls are “black and white” is what they look like after using the easy off oven cleaner to remove the chrome. The bezels turn matte black and the reflector bowls turn a gloss white.

All you need to do is remove the chrome with the oven cleaner and then just rough off the surfaces of whatever you want to paint with some 1000-1200 grit sandpaper and then they are ready for primer/paint.

Any more questions feel free to PM me. I have tutorial videos on how to dremel the reflector bowls so the projector mount threads can fit through the bulb hole without over-dremeling the hole and having issues.

I just took apart a set of the ModifyStreet 2019 look headlights and noticed that I probably could have done fine with the heat gun. I actually started to and even after only a couple minutes with the gun at 300 F, the seam was starting to soften enough in areas to get a small flat blade in there and pry apart a bit.

My only worry with the heat gun is that by the time I get EVERYTHING heated, some parts of it would start to cool. I ended up just baking them instead and that worked fine too.
