Local 1/8th mile drag track is hosting a fall event including street tire and daily driver classes. I'm debating running in the DD class so I went down to a test and tune last weekend.
I aired down to 25psi rear tires and got a ton of wheel hop. I heard that you should run street tires cold but the only decent launch was when I roasted the tires at the waterbox.
Since I don't really want to abuse the tires that much, should I try higher air pressure? Standard GoodYear highway tread, not traction tires.
Before I installed the TrueTrac I would get a lot of wheel spin, IIRC that was at 30psi.
Powerbrake up to about 1000rpm, let off brake and mat it on go.
I can press the go pedal more slowly but that's hard to get consistent launches.

I had horrible wheel hop , I upgraded the rear upper and lower control arms . This eliminated the hop issue .
I went with Clayton off road arms that are listed for a Gladiator. They do not list them for rams , but are the same length. These are very strong, nothing like the factory.

But with my street tires at the track , it has no traction at takeoff .
My local track formally Moroso/pbir has been closed for a few years now , so I haven’t been at a track in ages.

If someone with an abundance of money is interested and willing, this fine track is still for sale .
I and hundreds of others would be very happy to patronize your new facility weekly. Even more for t&t during the week.

I guess tracks are closing. Atco raceway in South jersey abruptly closed a few years ago. Earlier this year I passed by and it was still empty, nothing demolished and nothing built

Air them down to 22/23 psi, pull the front swaybar, pump the front tires up to 65 psi, leave the traction control on,and leave off idle. You're lowered if i remember right, and unless you did the relocation brackets, you're gonna get wheel hop, even if you're only a couple inches lower on the rear,a set of adjustable locating arms will help you set the pinion angle to about 1.5 degrees, but they're only a bandaid fix at best, you need to bring the rear arms down to create body seperation, which plants the rear tires into the pavement, anything that squats on launch is actually pulling weight off the rear tires.

Tires were at 25 or a little less. I left the sway bar and traction control alone. I did the drop kit from IHC including arm relocation.
I was powerbraking at a little over 1k, I'll try lower rpms.
Should be another test and tune this weekend, I might try it again and do a little more experimenting.
I can disconnect the sway bar and play with tire pressure.
I thought about getting a pair of used tires and rims, so I won't care about roasting them.
This will likely be a one-time thing so I don't want to put a bunch of money in it.

Anytime I tried to power brake at the track , I just ended up roasting the tires.
If I let tc on and just floor it it is a lot better , but I am sure slicks are the answer for the most traction.

Years ago ,loading up the truck with tires and floor Jack ,coolers , and other odds and ends wasn’t to difficult.
Then changing wheels , then back again
But time has made these once simple things , much more difficult as my body wears away.

Remove the swaybar, you won't even notice it's gone. What do you mean by "left" the traction control alone, was it "on" or "off" ,you shouldn't have wheelhop if it's still on.Are you driving around the water/burn out box, then doing a short little quick stab with the traction control off,to clean the tires, then turning the traction control back on. Big mistake alot of newbee's make is driving through the water box with street tires, you want to avoid getting any water on the front tires or rear tires if your on street tires. The front tires will gather up water and drip water right in front of the rear tires when you stage, and the rear tires also will have water in the treads, you want to keep street tires dry,so drive around the burn out box if possible, then give them a quick spin to clean them.

Whatever the trac control is usually when normal driving. I assume that's on. The light is not on.
I drive around the water box normally, as I've heard that with street tires you should not do a burnout, plus not tracking water on the track. A/C is also off.
When I did try the water box burnout I went around and backed in.
